On and off. On. Then off again. I waited for the burst of light to flood again onto the street. Waiting. The lights stayed off. I tried to turn them on. Over and over again I flicked the on switch. I became manic with stress. "Come on." I said to myself.  "Come on. Come on, come on! Damn it! Turn on!" My voice was cracking as I screamed at the headlights. "Crap!" I screamed. At this point I had given up. My head flew back in frustration and anger. I only looked away for a second. One second. Just out the window for a moment. I needed to catch my breath. I remember thinking I needed to pull over. I looked back at the road. Lights flooded my vision. Are my headlights back on? It got brighter. The lights came closer. And then I knew.
