John's POV
Stupid new school. I think to myself in the car journey to this fancy new boarding school. I mean why this school? Why not one closer to where my friends are. Can't say I'm bothered about my family. Well, there is mum. But Harry's gone, and dad... Anyway why this school? I'll just have to adapt.
Sherlock's POV
Another boring year at school to look forward to. Another year for me to be called "freak". Another year for people to be stupid. Can't wait. Mycroft will boast about being head boy, Greg will slap him on the back and congratulate him when we all know he just wants physical contact with my dear brother. And I'll have a dorm to myself considering the circumstances (the last boy I shared with I set on fire. By accident of course...). So now it'll be just me alone with my experiments and my books. (A/N: Haha I wouldn't get your hopes up Sherl!)
We're in the car now. Going back to school with mother driving and Mycroft blabbing in the front about some government job offer he got. He's going for the interview tomorrow. Not that I could care less. He won't get it anyway, he's too... Mycroft-y.
John's POV
I switch the radio on, "John, switch that off please. I've got a terrible headache," my mum asks. I groan but switch it off. A second later my mum groans too, "No, no, no, no!"
"What is it, mum?" I ask.
"No, no, NO!" she screams. I look over at her to see her glaring at the petrol sign. It's on E, for empty. The car sputters to a stop. "UhhhHH! Why can't things just work out for a change?!" She shouts at no one in particular. I stay silent.
"John..." my mum asks in a voice that makes me think she wants me to do something for her, "Look, the schools only a mile away, and it's a nice enough day," she said, her voice rising a bit on the last word, " I just think it's pointless you staying here until someone comes... and as I said, it's only a mile away..."
"So you want me to walk to my new school on my first day?"
"Well it's not your first day. You start lessons next week."
"Yeah, but..."
"Please, John?" She tilts her head and I see the darkness of a bruise show up.
"Uhh, fine."
"Thank you so much, John! Now I'll just wait until a car comes by and see if they have any petrol, or is this car diesel? Never mind, I'll call someone. Anyway, bye Johnny, I'll see you whenever your first break is. Text me?" She looks at me and I see that she's proud but also sad. I don't know how I can do this to her, how can I leave her all alone with dad? My mum kisses me on the head and I jump out the car and grab my stuff from the boot.
I've been walking not much more than five minutes when I hear a car coming up behind me. It was a black car with tainted windows in the back. The front passenger window rolls down. I boy, about 3 years older than me is sitting there with a smug look on his face. He leans back into his seat and I see a women, who must be the boys mother, stretch her neck over to my direction.
"Hello, dear! Are you going to Ross High? Because if you are we're happy to take you along! My two boys go you see-" She chatters away until the boy interrupts her.
"I would just say yes if I were you or she'd end up following you all the way to to school," He looks at me expectantly.
"Um, okay. That's very kind of you," I make to get in the door closest to me.
"Oh, no. You'll have to get in the other door!" The woman says cheerily. I walk round the car, open the back door and plonk myself in the seat and stuff my bag under the seat.
"Honestly, it's very kind of you-" I turn to put my seat belt on and see a boy, around my age, staring at me. "Oh, um, hi," I mutter embarrassed. I take a quick glance at him again. His eyes are like an ocean, blue, green, silver. And his hair, I just want to reach out and touch it to check it's real, It's curly and dark brown, so luxurious. But what gets me most of all are his cheekbones, you could cut yourself on them. I find that I can't look away. He coughs awkwardly and looks down. The woman speaks again.
"So, I'm Violet Holmes" she says, putting her hand on her chest, "this is Mycroft," Violet points to the boy in the front, "And this is Sherlock," she gestures to the boy next to me. I smile at him, he looks at me questioningly. "And what's your name, dear?"
"Uh, John Watson," I don't know what to do so I just look down at my hands and twiddle my thumbs.
Sherlock's POV Wow. Who is this guy? He thinks he can just come into our car and say "hi" to me in my car? Seriously. I accidently let out a sigh. He glances over at me and I can feel myself blushing. Dammit Holmes, keep it together! I tilt my head slowly in his direction. His sandy, brown hair cut neatly and his astonishing blue eyes blind me. His face tells me a story. I open my mouth to ask him "Afghanistan or Iraq" but I think better of it. Don't want to scare him off now do we?
"So, how long have you been at Ross High?" Mother asks John. Isn't it obvious? It's his first year here and he's here on a football scholarship.
"Oh, it's my first year here, in 5th year, I've got a football scholarship," See!
"Oh! Our Sherlock's in 5th year!" My mother exclaims excitedly. John looks over at me, I look up and smile politely.
John's POV
After 7 minutes of awkward silence we arrive at the school gates, Sherlock jumps out the car and runs off to God knows where, his curls bouncing as he runs. Not gay, I think to myself.
