Being raised in a poor family, the room where i entered seemed to be too luxurious to leave my shoes on. Everything i saw seemed to be bigger than normal: the doors and windows, tables and chairs... The first person i saw in this castlesized house was a short old lady, who became my friend later.
-I am Haru,-I said trying to be polite.
she kept looking at me.
-Haruki..Inoue Haruki.
She just started walking.
-Follow me,- she said angerly.
-Yes, ma'am- i whispered quietly, and started walking trying to catch up.
On the way to the room where I was supposed stay, she was quiet too, she only asked where I was from, which I am from a little village called Samete, outside of Osaka.
The room where we finished our tour inlike to all the other rooms, was little and dark. I left my staff, which I didnt have a lot, and went downstairs, again following mean old lady.
At the very last floor, which was a kitchen, at least it seemed like, I saw a lot of women, rushing and runing around the big room. It was warmer in there than in all the other rooms I have managed to be in a half an hour that I spent in this house.
After standing in the entrance for I dont remember how long I walked over a litlle girl who was almost dragging a bucket of water.
- you need help, little lady?- i said grabbing the handle of the bucket.
she didnt even look at me. She just freaked out and ran away. It shocked me. I kept staying next to the bucket for a minute. I couldnt understand what was happening in this house. There is nothing really to be scared of but it had this aura that makes want to run away and never come back.
It would probably took me longer to leave my thoughts and come back to real life, if not old lady, that I later discovered has a name Gertrude, yelled out my name. Ok, lets stop right here and spend some time on Gertrude. She was a defector from her country. She is not the most attractive lady. She has big grey eyes, little mouth and wrinkled skin. Her hair was long and white. She used to always put them up in a bun, which came out not very big.
She seemed to be mean, actually she was mean, but she was not a bad person. Later we had to spend time together almost all the times. It was not hard for me at all. I even enjoyed it. She didnt. But as i said before, we became friends later.
-are you stupid? You were supposed to help them around. You want to do everything I say if you want to stay here.
