Chapter One.

It was late afternoon by the time we arrived at college. It was my very first year here, so I was a nervous wreck. My brother, on the other hand, was in his final year of his Psych degree so already knew how everything worked and was as confident as ever.

"Kogane, Keith Kogane" I breathed to the angry looking woman at the front desk of the student dorms. Honerva (her name hand written on an old looking badge) tossed my key across the desk impatiently.

"room 217, your roommate is already up there" she spat, clearly desperate to be anywhere else.

I walked back over to where Shiro stood tall and proud.

"where'd you get?" he asked, kind and smiling as always.

"217"

"ooh, not bad, I was there my first year, it's nice. I'm up in 438 so not too far. Let's get your stuff up there so I can finally go and get mine" Shiro grinned. He always had such a confident yet trustworthy air about him, like he knew everyone's secrets but would never tell. He was my hero. He'd always taken care of me, practically raised me (since our parents worked late), even though I was only his adoptive brother. I never felt like anything but his brother. Ever since we were young, he called us the Broganes and we'd done everything together. He meant everything to me and that's why I'd chose to come to the same college as him.

We carried the boxes up to my room but as we unlocked the door, the room was completely empty, aside from a few small boxes.

"I thought your roommate was alre- "

"AHH" we both shrieked, Shiro was suddenly cut off by a large box being thrown at us by a small, dishevelled looking being, who turned out to be my roommate.

"Hey, I'm Pidge! You must be Keith" They stuck their hand out half-heartedly.

"Hey" I smiled, shaking their hand, still slightly bewildered.

"And you're Shiro, you're friends with my brother Matt. He's in the other room if you wanna catch up with him"

Shiro smiled agin before going to find Matt.

"So what's your major? Mine is engineering but I am not sharing with a dance kid again, Im not about the loud music" Pidge probed, collapsing onto the historic looking sofa.

"I'm majoring in music composition" I replied, looking through my boxes.

"Ugh even worse" Pidge laughed "I'm about grab lunch with Matt and since it looks like your brother is coming, care to join us aswell?"

I nodded and Pidge threw themselves up and summoned their brother and Shiro. We all headed down to the ground floor to meet Pidge's friends (Allura and Shay), before we walked down to a small diner on the corner of the road -where the other already were. I began to feel more and more anxious as we approached the building, not ready to meet this many people at once- Shiro must have noticed as he left Matt to stand next to me, his hand on my shoulder reassuringly. We all entered and moved towards a table at the very back, where an exciting looking guy sat, showing photos to a larger, yellow clad boy. As we moved closer, I noticed there was a third person sat with them. He was different. Breath taking. His shaggy cut hair framed his faces beautifully, briefly moving to reveal a jaw line sharp enough to cut me. He looked up at us and I stopped in my tracks. His eyes were stunning and he had a smile to match. I stood staring for a moment, trying to comprehend how gorgeous he was.

"Hey don't be nervous, they're all really lovely" Shiro interrupted, moving past me to sit next to Matt. I smiled and shuffled to the table, squeezing in on the end of a bench, next to Shay (who, it turns out was the human embodiment of sunshine) and across from the Cuban boy.

"SO! Since we have a few new members to this group, maybe we should introduce ourselves" Allura announced, moving her flowing white hair out of her face. The group agreed and began to introduce themselves. I didn't listen to anyone. That was, until the Cuban boy began to speak, his voice like melted chocolate, I could listen to him for hours.

"I'm Lance" -Lance, I like that a lot, I thought- "I'm a dance and performing arts major, I'm Cuban, bi, single and ready to mingle" He winked at the group collectively, making my heart flutter. I continued to reply that wink in my head, not realising it was my turn until Shay nudged me.

"Oh, erm, hi, I'm Keith. Um, I'm a music theory and composition major. I'm 18 and I'm Shiro's brother. Yeah" I stuttered.

"Hey, don't be nervous pretty boy, we won't bite" Lance laughed. Pretty boy? My face quickly turned a deep scarlet colour and I put my head down.

"Don't worry, he's fine, just needs a moment" Shiro's voice was so familiar and calming.

The group continued to chat while we waited for our food.

Our food arrived and we all began to eat.

"So Keith, you're super quiet, we haven't heard much from you, what are your hobbies?" Lance asked, which took me by surprised. I'd never even expect him to remember my name, let alone care about what I liked. I waited and let me ask me again, I just wanted to hear his beautiful voice say my name again, it set fireworks off in my chest.

"I, er, I like music I guess, I write songs and play violin, piano and guitar" I chocked out.

He grinned, still looking at his food "you'll have to play for me some time" My eyes darted up, meeting his. It was only for a second but felt like and eternity, I never wanted it to end.

"Lance, leave the poor boy alone, he just wants to eat and your flirting is just going to put him off" Allura laughed.

Lance laughed, looking at me again and then went back to eating. The rest of the group chatted, while I ate, never taking my eyes away from Lance.

Once we'd finished, we all left together and headed back to the dorms.
