"The elders of the green are in session. May Ember South, Ash West and Cinder North please stand." said a voice from an ocean of men who had well passed their expiry date.
Three young girls slowly stood in a row, turning, to face the old bearded men.
The tallest of the three was the first to speak "our sister Coal East has died in a house fire, and with no heir..."
"We can not continue being for if there is only three my lords." the shortest girl finished curtsying awkwardly.
The tallest of the three had black hair braided around her head into a bun . And like her sisters had a bridge of freckles over her nose and a pair piercing green eyes. She was beautiful in a way that would make make any mans head turn.
"that is not good, my dear corners" said a man addressing the three young women standing in front of him.
"Of course it's not good, we wouldn't have come here if we didn't need a little help!" Yelled the second girl with enough attitude to make the Queen faint.
The second of the girls had short cropped black hair that came to her shoulders which gave the impression that she'd slashed it with a sword.
"Ash!", gasped the eldest in utter disproval.
"Had to be said sis'" she shrugged.
"We all know your loss shall affect every soul and being on this planet, but the real concentration is your younger sister. One of you will have to look after her and teach her all about the importance of being a corner."
"Umm, I have read up on all of that, I know more then you do... probably. And anyway I don't need to be looked after, I am 10012 on January
"What makes you think you still don't need help Ember?" Asked cinder mockingly.
"Wait that makes cinder, like what? 10020 years old?" Ash asked sighing.
"Actually 10021, it was my birthday a few weeks ago." Cinder said still scanning the members of the court with deep suspicion.
"Girls, back on topic..." One of the men where cut off by a mist slowly carving its way through the crowd.
All of a sudden the room felt like it had dropped 20 degrees.
"I'm dearly sorry for being such a party crasher, but, it's my job to know when someone dies so I've come to... Pay my respects." said a young smirking man who had been hiding in the shadows leaning against the back wall.
"Oh, look isn't it my favourite Uncle Olbaid", said Ash turning her strongly held posture into a sarcastic smile.
"Well it's lovely to see you to Niece, but I'm not here to bring pain and suffering to you this time. Unfortunately, but I have news of Coals son, her heir. But he is 9 months of age. highly unable to take the throne of East." He said making it clear he wanted something.
"Wait, I have a nephew?" Said Ember in utter surprise "why haven't you told me Cinder?" She asked puzzled.
"Because we were told Coal did not have an apprentice nor a son for that matter" the eldest replied looking the man up and down, as if scanning for a lie.
What do you want Uncle" said Ash sighing "you wouldn't have come unless you wanted something from us." She said as if it happened on a daily bases.
"Well you are right I am here for something, I'll give you that.", he said parting the sea of elders as he walked towards the girls, "I desire one thing and one thing only, the throne of East, and seeing you don't have any other blood realities I am the only eligible Heir."
"He's right" said ember. Flicking her eyes to each sister.
Young ember had long black hair that hung down to her waist, and like her sisters she had a silver tiara placed upon her head. And being the youngest she was quite short.
"How do you know he's not lying" said Cinder looking panicked.
"I read The Lord of the Ancients, and on page 183 section 27 paragraph 9 it said that blood relatives can take the place of the corner who has passed."
"Surprised you don't have it down to the word" Ash said smirking teasingly.
Ember poked her tong out at her sister obviously not so happy with her.
"Wait, how did you read a book that big?"asked Cinder
"Duh, we've been alive for over 1000 years, do you really think I just walk around my room all day?" she asked as if the answer was obvious.
Cinder mumbled something under her breath and then returned to her sour look towards Olbaid.
"Back to the point corners." Said the man clicking his fingers in front of their faces, "If Coals son is not here by his 17th birthday, then I remain east for eternity. But until that day I shall take the post, any objections?" Olbaid said scanning the room with his beady ,yellow, hawk eyes.
Nobody raised there hand. It was silent.
"problem solved, nice doing business with you" he said and melted into the shadows, laughing wickedly.
