〰〰➰〰〰

AS THE class ends, I start to pack my things and hold my folder and books on my arm. When I walk out of the room, a guy, or should I say, my classmate in Spanish class appears in front of me, literally blocking my path.

He walks toward me in a slow pace. "Creo que, estamos partidas en la misma clase, Helena." (I think, we're heading at the same class, Helena.)

I bring my things closer to my chest as I look at the ground. Luis Gomez is the smartest when it comes to Spanish class because he was born in Greece. But when it comes to other subjects, let's just say, he's really not into them.

I listened to that class, too, but even if I tried to comprehend it in my mind, some of the words never registered inside my brain.

"Si (Yes)," I say, and I know I sounded like a cockroach being stomped by a foot.

I don't wanna look up to meet his stare because I'm too afraid to communicate to students. This is the main reason why teenagers don't want to hang out with me, it's because I'm so anti-social, and distant to boys.

Staring at his white rubber shoes, I let out a sigh and decide to fade away from his sight. I step pass him in a faster way to avoid not just him, but anyone in this school. All of a sudden, I bump into someone making me fall onto the ground as my things scatter around me.

When I turn my face up, Molly is standing there with a furrowing eyebrows and seething teeth.

I can already feel some stares from unknown people, and it doesn't feel good. The sneering and whispering of students enter inside my ears, probably talking about how clumsy I am.

She raises her foot, ready to kick me once again that makes me cowardly bring my arms on my face to shield me even though it won't help me. I am waiting for the blow, but nothing contacts on my body.

In a slow manner, I remove my arms from my face with my still eyes closed. When I open them, I can't see her because a tall figure blocks her. That's when I only realize that Luis is standing in front of me, shielding me from any harm.

"Get out of my way, Luis!" she shouts, trying to get at me but he simply pushes her away from me.

"You better not hurt her, bitch, if you still love your own life."

I take a glimpse at her and see how the way she glares at me. She is sending me her sharpest look, stabbing my heart to bleed in pain.

She gives him one last look before she stomps away from us. The guy in front of me turns to me with soften eyes, then crouches down to help me get up.

I am astounded at the way he stands for me, at how he protected me from violence. No one has done that thing to me, and I actually thought that people can be so cruel, but I am mistaken. All I can say is, he is my knight in shining armor right in this moment.

I am snap out of thoughts when he waves his hand at my view to wake me up. That makes me gasp and grab my things on the ground, completely ignoring him.

"Let me help you." He starts to pick up the papers on the ground as the students go to their own business because the entertainment was done.

"TODA PERSONA tiene derecho a tener su propia libertad!" he says out loud as we walk out of the Spanish class.

For the first time in my life, I laughed in a genuine way without thinking about others. It has been a week since that encounter with Molly, and she never showed up. Luis talked to me more often, and I felt so comfortable as I spent my whole week with him. I learned from him that he is an only child, and is adopted by a Spanish couple. That's the reason why he doesn't look like one, because of his brownish quiff hair and grey eyes.

"What's the meaning of t-that, Luis?"

We step out of the school and stroll through the grassy field. "It means, everyone has the rights to have their own freedom. C'mon, you still don't know the Spanish language, Helena?"

As we reach the bench, I sit down looking at him with a slight smile on my lips. "I know a few, but not at a-a-all. In your case, you will be smart enough b-b-because it's your language ever since."

We become silent for a moment as I glance down on my wristwatch. My eyes widen when I see that it is already five-thirty pm.

I stand up and is about to stride away, when he grabs my arm and turns me to him.

"Where are you going, Helena?"

I stare at his hand on my arm then to his eyes. "I have t-to go home. My dad's gonna k-k-kill me if he ever finds out that—"

"Who's this guy, Helena?"

I freeze when I heard the voice of my father behind me. Biting my lip, I turn to him so slow, maybe because I'm too afraid to face him.

My dad is giving me a questioning look, and I know that behind those ocean eyes, he is already killing me in his thoughts.

"D-D-Dad—"

He ignores me as he removes his hand from my arm and grabs mine, dragging me out of the campus.

When we got inside the car, I take a glimpse at Luis who's still standing there while looking at me through the window. I wave good bye then the car drives away from where the school is, making me feel all alone once again.

"You'll explain all of this when we get home, Helena," he says.

I don't want to turn my head aside to look at him, so I keep on looking through the window as the city fades and trees start to consume alongside of the road.
