This is going to be from the perspective of Steve who is lying on the ground unconscious after just being attacked but still able to know what was going on around her.
Steve had never felt pain like it. Her shoulder was in agonising pain and she was sure that it had been torn out of its socket in the brutal beating she had just been through. Then there were the several cuts all over her body from kicks and punches that had been inflicted on her. She tried to think clearly despite the headache she had after being thrown to the ground unconscious and left for dead. All of it because she was the wife of Paul Temple. She marvelled at what people would do out of hatred. These men hated Paul with a passion because he had uncovered there illegal activities. They had realised that they could not directly hurt Paul but it was no secret that there was a special relationship between Paul Temple and his wife and seeing Steve hurt like she was now would also hurt Paul to a large extent.
Paul. The man she loved. Her beautiful husband. She could see him now in her head. His handsome face as clear as if he was right in front of her. His well-defined jaw line moving slightly as he smiled. His smile was in his emerald green eyes as well. As Steve lay there she shivered from the cold but also from fear. What if this morning when he had kissed her to say goodbye was the last time when she would ever see him or feel him again. She could smell him as well. This wasn't imagined though. She could defiantly smell his masculine scent. It was faint but it was there. She heard footsteps from where she presumed the door was. Then a voice "Steve." It was a voice she knew well." Steve darling are you ok." There was several quick footsteps and the next thing she knew was that he was there crouching beside her. "Oh Steve" was all she heard him say as he fought back tears at seeing his wife in this state. Steve wanted to open her eyes and look at him and tell him that he was ok but she couldn't. "Steve I am so sorry" Once again she wanted to respond to him and tell him that it wasn't his fault.
As Paul looked over his wife he couldn't help but notice blood. A lot of blood. He needed to know where the blood was coming from so that he could stop it. He could see that there was deformity in her left arm and he was sure that the shoulder was dislocated and as he looked further he could see a gash on the back of her shoulder going up to her neck. He took off his coat a lay it over her realising that she must be cold and the removed his jacket and lay it under her shoulder. He knew it wasn't much but he desperately hoped that it would be enough.
Steve felt him gently trail his hand over her face carefully avoiding the cut on her cheek. His fingers moved to move hair from her forehead and pressed a gentle kiss to her head as if he was afraid that his kiss would hurt her further. He took her right hand in both of his and squeezed it wanting to let her know that he was there for her. "I love you baby"
Beforehe could contemplate what he was going to do next he sensed someone enter theroom. Steve felt him tense slightly but she could still feel that his eyes wereon her. She didn't know how she could tell she just knew. A voice she had heardbefore began to speak. This time however she was not pleased to hear a familiarvoice. This voice belonged to the man who had inflicted pain on her. "I can'tstand the sight of blood" Steve could feel the anger rush through Paul. Oncemore he lovingly squeezed his wife's hand before standing to face the newcomer. "If as you say you can't stand the sight of blood then can I suggest that you don't kill people for a living?" His voice was calm and soft which served to slightly unsettle the man he was facing momentarily but soon a horrible twisted smile crossed his face "So she's dead then" Paul said nothing and took another few steps. Then he spoke in an angry voice which could only just be heard "You hurt my wife" again the attacker smiled and addressed Paul in a friendly tone. "Come on mate it's not like you actually loved the woman. You're better off now" Paul's jaw was clenching, a sure sign he was getting angry but still he did nothing as the voice continued "If you did love her you where stupid. Very stupid. No man should ever love a woman. Woman aren't to be loved they are to be used."
Steve heard a sharp thump as she envisioned Paul lashing out and pinning her attacker against the wall. "I love her, no you haven't killed her but you have hurt her and for that I am going to hurt you" Suddenly a fight broke out between the two men and all Steve could hear was the struggle. She had lost track of the time the two had been battling each other when she heard the thud of a body land next to her. In an instant she knew who it was. It was Paul. She could tell from his breathing he was badly hurt and then she heard the one sound she hadn't wanted to hear. Gunshots. Two of them and then silence.
There was one thought in her head. Paul had been shot. She needed to open her eyes and see for herself. She wasn't sure what it was, probably the desperation to know what had happened but she managed to open her eyes. It took a few moments for her eyes to adjust and when they did the sight that met her eyes was not what she had expected. There were two men lying on the ground the furthest one being dragged out by two policemen and the closest one which was clearly Paul had a familiar figure helping it to stand.
As Paul stood he thanked the man who had helped him up "Thank you sir Graham I needed help just then. Now can we get a doctor in here for Steve?" Sir Graham nodded towards Steve who was now watching them with her eyes open "I've already sent for one" However his words fell upon death ears as Paul rushed over and pulled his wife into his arms both feeling pain. Her from the dislocated shoulder and him from a gash down his rib cage but at that moment neither of them cared.
"Oh Steve darling I'm so glad your awake"
"Me to Paul. I love you Paul" With that her eyes fell closed again as her head fell against her husband's chest.
