Ten years passed since Dr. Martha Denning’s theory of Conscious Conduit Connectivity  was proven into natural law, and since Dr. Steven Dennings ComWatch patented design was bought up for military implementation, turning the tides of many battles and even wars to the benefit the America's Armed forces.

Put to use as a means to avert disasters on the battlefield, lives were saved in the thousands, it seemed. With this technology war was pointless after a time. Nations stopped fighting for the most part, people stopped rebelling, with the American military at the preemptive epicenter of every militant, revolutionary, and even literary uprising worldwide. The device was strictly limited to purely military implementation, never to be used as a means of medicine, as population control was still an issue that was yet to be solved ethically. International governments coalesced into one system, after the signing of the the Armistice Pangaea, uniting all nations as one that stood as the one power to vanquish violence and upheaval: The Pangaeanocratic Earth State.

There were silent factions of rebels, meeting over encrypted channels, for as long as the encryption held; there were still silent protests of world citizens communicating with one another in subtle artforms unrecognizable to the Pangaeanocratic Values Commission, a worldwide state agency that dealt with any possible violent uprising before they occurred. Jurisdiction-wide raids would become routine, as more and more world citizens became monitored and probated.

The protests weren't poised against a peaceful world without war, but rather the idea the ComWatch systematically abandoned millions of soldiers and innocent people to experience mass atrocities once each new iteration of military victory was preemptively won by ComWatch tactics. The first to realize this were the very creators of the devices, Drs. Martha and Steven Denning. They postulated that, in each instance that the watch was used by the American armed forces to communicate the manner in which a battle was lost, a new reality, based in the past, was created to claim victory instead of defeat.

This meant that there was a strong possibility that world governments stuck in the reality of origin could become complicit to massive atrocities in their own time, with the knowledge that a better reality was made. In essence, they hypothesized that the ComWatch was not only communicating, but systematically manufacturing entire realities at the hands of the American Armed Forces, leaving entire realities untended and uncared for. The Pangaeanocratic State refuted this argument on the basis that the realities of origin are what created such an advanced society, and soon Drs. Martha and Steven Denning as well as their 6 year old daughter, Jessica Denning, were to be heavily monitored, and made to live in Probationary Contempt of Commission; this meant that their entire life was monitored from their biology to their communications, even their thoughts via a new neural node implant known as Cerebrex. That is how it came to be known that Dr. Martha Denning had become sick with a particularly untreatable type of brain cancer.
