"Please, take her!"My father pleaded. I just stood behind him, scared. I was 13, but I didn't act like it most of the time. It happens when you witness a war at a young age. Apparently, my family would trade small, nuclear powered, electronics for coal with this mans family.

"Why, though? District 12 is in just as much trouble as District 13. I don't want to separate you from your daughter if it isn't necessary." The man replied. My father shook his head.

"It's not like that anymore. First of all, the Capital thinks it even more important that they defeat District 13 because they started the rebellion, and second of all, District 13 is considering giving in, and making an agreement to stay underground. I don't want that for Eva. I want her to be able to go places, move around. I don't want her to be trapped." The man nodded.

"Ok, I'll take her. But, take her back as soon as you can. She is your daughter, and I don't want to take her away from you for any more time than necessary." My father nodded again. Then he turned back to me.

"Eva, You are going to stay with Richard for awhile. It is for your own safety. I'll take you back to District 13 as soon as I can." I nodded and stepped forward. I somehow knew that he had no intentions of bringing me back. I took another step towards the man, and he took me in his arms. I turned back to my father.

"Good-bye." I said, nearly bursting into tears. It took all of the little energy I had to hold them in. I couldn't cry, not now. My father seemed even closer to tears than me, and he just gave me one last hug. When h turned away, he didn't look back.

"Eva, I know this is rushing it a bit, but you need to know what to say if someone asks where you came from. What Rachel and I were thinking was, you were always from District 12, you were homeschooled, your parents weren't very social, they didn't work at the coal mines, they worked at the bakery for the Mellarks, and then they died in the war. We were one of the few people they were friends with, and when they died we took you in. How does that sound?" He asked. I nodded.

"Not that far from the truth." I mumbled. My mother had died in the war, we didn't have a good public school in District 13, so my parents home schooled me, my parents didn't really talk to many people, they of course didn't work in coal mines, Richard and Rachel were their friends, and now they were taking me in. Richard just looked down awkwardly.

We continued walking. When we got to the place called "The Seam" we turned to the first house. My dad had told me a lot about what I needed to know. Then, I saw a woman running out of the house. She came up to me and gave me a big hug. I awkwardly hugged her back. No one and warned me about this. In District 13 we hadn't done a lot of these kinds of things.

"Eva! It is so nice to meet you! I'm Rachel, although you probably could guess that. Sorry that I am talking so fast, it is a habit I have when I'm excited. So, let me show you your bed. Sorry, we don't have any specific room for you. We don't have the room." She hurried me in and showed me around. I just let her do it. I let my thoughts wander, back to my mother, my father, my friends that had died in the war, the friends that I was leaving behind, back to a home I would never return to. I sighed inwardly, trying to brace myself for what would come, but I knew it would be impossible.

HI!!! So, I started this book because I had lots of ideas for it, and I wanted to do a Hunger Games fanfiction. So, I know I haven't worked on any of my other stories for a while, but in my defense, I have had some major writer's block for Audience and The Magic, and I have been busy. So, please accept my apology, and I will also try to work on that more, and not add any more stories so I can focus on these three. Also, this is a Hunger Games fanfiction. I do not own the Hunger Games. That part belongs to Suzanne Collins, but the plot and most of the characters are mine. I will probably have a few characters that belong to Suzanne Collins. ~HP
