"Umm Aaron where's New Portland?"
"Better question, since when is there a new Portland?"
The city lit up the daytime. Buildings rose like long bony fingers (shh this is the one deep sounding part let me have my moment :). We were in a highway, that much I knew.
"Well maybe it's the obvious choice, but why don't we follow this road?"
"Okeedokee."
We walked. We walked forever. End of story.
Okay it wasn't that long, but it was late by the time we finally reached the city limits. Nothing actually seemed all that different. It was weird. The flaming buildings we had seen before we replaced with rusted scrap metal houses. As we walked down what appeared to be main street (judging from the knocked down road sign), I noticed there was not a single person on the street. Then I tripped over something lying in the road.
It was not a dead body. It was a sign for a theater.
"Which building do you think is the theater?" I asked Bailey.
"Not sure, but I need to sleep and some food would be great too."
We found a building that wasn't boarded up and walked in. We found a room in the back that was carpeted, and miraculously held a refrigerator. It wasn't working but there were a lot of granola bars, which didn't make sense in the refrigerator, but we weren't complaining. After we had eaten, Bailey fell asleep on the carpet, and I was getting lonely, so I went to sleep as well.
