"Auta come here quickly! " my ammi called out to me while I was quickly putting on my necklace. Today was my sister's engagement day so I wanted to look elegant and special. Minutes later the door of the room opened revealing an angry looking mum "and here you are getting all decked up while everyone is waiting for you" I just smiled sheepishly at here and quickly sprayed perfume and hugged her while putting my head on her shoulder " dearest, sweetest, cutest ammi I don't like you worrying unnecessarily you'll get wrinkles" I said playfully and ran out of the room seeing she wanted to smack me. I went straight to the main parlour and saw my relatives looking all gloomy and sad. My heart started beating loudly,I spotted my elder brother Kabeer sitting on one of the chairs with his head on his laps. I walked to him and put my hand on his shoulder ,what scared me was how red and puffy his eyes was. He looked lost and broken " Ya kabeer me ya faru ( what happened)" He opened his mouth to reply but only sobs could be heard. I stood up seeing that he couldn't bring himself to answer me. " Aunty Fateema please tell me what is going on?" I asked my paternal aunt but she also didn't reply. I stood there asking my relatives but there couldn't reply then a thought crossed my mind. "Adda Layla! Where is my sister?" I asked Edrees my cousin. "DON'T CALL HER YOUR SISTER AGAIN SALMA! SHE HAS DECEIVED US AND BROUGHT SHAME UPON OUR FAMILY " Ya Kabeer said in a tone filled with anger and sorrow. I stood there dumbfound not knowing what to do. Many dirty thoughts kept swirling in my mind but I pushed them all out and kept reciting Allah's beautiful names. Ya Kabeer stood before me and handed me a letter neatly folded. I felt my head spinning as I finished reading the letter. Tears flowed down my cheeks and I felt the world spinning and the ground seemed to swallow me. The family members hovered on me, I could see their lips moving but I couldn't hear a single word. The last person I saw was my mother before I gave myself up to darkness.........
