Ashley smiled when she saw him; Martin Freeman. Her heart fluttered at the sight of his adorably cheeky smile. They had ran into each other, quite literally, a few weeks prior. They nearly knocked each other to the ground as they fumbled for words of apology. Then their eyes locked; creating an invisible world that only they knew. Coffee that day had led them to this moment. Ashley wasn’t too sure, but she was almost positive that she was falling for this man. It was the beginning of fall so the leaves were starting to turn New York into a wonderland of color. Martin’s fingertips lingered on her arm, and even through the material of her jacket, she could feel his touch. Her heart fluttered. He guided her to a nearby vendor; taking out his wallet.
“Alright, I’ll have umm.. two coffees. One with french vanilla, and both with cream and sugar.” The simplest words he said did unspeakable things to her. Everything rolled off of his tongue like music; coated in his British accent. Martin turned his head to give her a smile. He had remembered the way she liked to drink her coffee. Ashley bit her lower lip. It seemed like she was falling for him faster every time they met up. Their fingers brushed each other as he handed her the coffee.
“Thank you.” Ashley said with a smile. She wanted to tell him how she felt so badly.
“You’re welcome.” His slightly stuck out ears lifted as he smiled. An action that was so slight that it was unnoticeable to the untrained eye. No.. She thought. I’ll wait til we know each other better..
“Come on.” Martin began cheerfully as he held out his bent arm. “New York’s beautiful this time of year.” Ashley nodded before she linked her arm with his; resting her hand on the top of his forearm.
They looked at the beautiful scenery as they talked and laughed. Martin definitely wasn’t lying; Central Park in the fall was gorgeous. Ashley found that her love for the man beside her was growing faster every second. Her chest seemed to be in a constant roller coaster whenever he was there. She was completely mesmerized. The twinkle in his deep blue eyes. The way his ears moved when he smiled. The adorable dimples in his cheeks. His laugh. The way he licked his lips when he was thinking. Martin could do absolutely nothing; and she’d still think he was adorable. He was, for lack of a better word, perfect. There was a part of her that just wanted to tell him right then and there. They had been dating long enough. Then why don’t you just tell him you coward?! Because that’s exactly what she was. Scared. Scared of his reaction, scared that he wouldn’t feel the same way. So she kept her feelings to herself. Which was now harder than it was before, and she was tired of it.
I don't know, but I think I may be fallin' for you
Droppin' so quickly, maybe I should keep this to myself
Wait until I know you better
I am tryin' not to tell you, but I want to
I'm scared of what you'll say
So I'm hidin' what I'm feelin'
But I'm tired of holdin' this inside my head
Ashley bit her lower lip; suppressing a smile, as she closed the front door to her apartment. She felt heat rushing to her face as she placed her fingers over her right cheek. She could still feel his lips on her skin. Martin had walked her home after he treated her to a simple supper. After they had arranged another date for the next night, one of which he was keeping a secret, he gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Right on the corner of her mouth. As Ashley got ready for bed; she kept replaying that moment in her mind. Imagining how she wished it had gone. That Martin had kissed her on the lips, or that she had the courage to do it herself. Ashley brought her fingers to her lips as she imagined what his lips would feel like. When it came to men, she never really had any idea of what to do. But there was one thing she was certain of. She had fallen for Martin.
