A collection of gods watched over the world, each governing their own respective part. Being both feared and respected, the citizens revered their gods immensely. But it was widely known that the gods were very similar to humans themselves. They possessed surprisingly humane traits, along with inhuman powers. It was a combination that only further deepened the citizens' reverence for them. The gods were unpredictable. They sorrowed, they envied, they celebrated, and they even loved. Sometimes that itself caused problems.
In the land most closely guarded by the gods, there lived a young prince. He was gifted with the loveliest voice in the entire kingdom. Every day, he would sit in his garden and play songs, singing along to the tune. The gods took notice of the beautiful music and gathered in the clouds to listen. It became something of a routine for the gods to take a break from their daily tasks to listen to the prince's songs. While every god appreciated the relaxing melodies, there were two in particular that took more notice of the person behind the music. One of which, the sun god, eventually decided to go down to meet the prince.
There wasn't a rule stating gods couldn't interact with humans. In fact, it happened more often than most people realized. The gods often went down to check on the citizens they overlooked to make sure everything was right in their world. Some gods were a little mischievous with their visits, playing tricks or giving out punishments to those that disrespected them. The majority of gods, though, were benevolent for the most part. If not a little unsure of how to properly interact with humans. The sun god was one of the more frequent visitors to the mortal realm. He enjoyed humans, and came back time and time again to see them go about their daily lives. So, no one questioned it when he went down to see the prince. They only became curious when he began to do it increasingly often.
"Luz-kun sure does like hanging out with that human, huh?" Urata said, peering over the clouds at the earth below him.
The sun god and the young prince were sitting together in the prince's garden. The prince absently strummed at his lyre while Luz spoke. The prince let out a bubbly laugh every so often, which drifted up to the Heavens with his music.
"I guess so. I kind of wish he'd stop messing around so much. He's distracting the human from singing," Amatsuki responded. He stretched out on the plush bedding of the clouds. "What was the human's name again? Mofu, or something?"
"Mafumafu, I think," Sakata said.
"Humans have such weird names," Urata commented.
Amatsuki shrugged. "I don't know, I kind of like it. It sounds cute."
"Don't tell me you're starting to get a thing for that human too," Urata teased.
"Yeah right. I'm not like Luz," Amatsuki said with an amused snort.
"That's good. It'd be bad if he had both the sun and the moon in the palm of his hand," Sakata said.
The three gods laughed at this. If only the prince knew what kind of power he had access to right now. Urata rolled over onto his back and looked at his friend Soraru. Said god was sitting at the edge of the cloud, staring down dejectedly at the Earth. Lately, Soraru had been particularly moody, which was really saying something. Having occasional mood swings seemed to naturally come with being the god of the sky.
"Hey, Soraru-kun, what are you sulking about?" Urata asked.
"I'm not sulking," Soraru muttered, barely audible from where the others were.
"Then what do you call sitting around brewing up storms?" Urata retorted.
Soraru only gave him a pointed look in response. The other gods felt the cloud give a low rumble beneath them.
