Gerard's Point of View

I woke up to see the World Trade Center burning before my eyes. I looked around and saw dust, blood, bodies, and debris everywhere.

I prayed to god one of those bodies didn't belong to Emily. I got up and looked for her.

"Emily?!", I called her name hoping for a response, "Emily?!"

I saw her brown hair sparkling in the sun. I ran to her.
"Em?" I said pushing her now limp body. "Emily!" I started to cry. "No!" I yelled feeling her pulse. No heart beat. "No!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.

I held my best friend's lifeless body in my arms while watching the building before me tumble down in flames. I instantly regretted everything. I didn't want to believe it. I felt like a child that did not understand death.

"She is just sleeping" I told myself,
"She'll wake up. Just a few minutes."

I finally accepted the truth. She was dead. There wasn't anything I could say or do now. I sat there crying, my head on her chest where her heartbeat should have been. I took one last look at my best friend, and the woman that i loved, lifeless, body.

I got up, and slowly walked away, for her body would burn with the rest of them along with the once large building.

"So long, and goodnight, my love"
