To me, poetry isn't just a song, or a rhyme. It's much more than that. It's an author expressing their ideas, opinions, or emotions. What had started out as a passing thought or catchy phrase became important enough to catch their attention. That small sentence is expanded upon and put together in a way that is given meaning by the author. It's not unimportant. It's not boring. It's inspiring. It's enlightening. And most importantly, it requires a person to think. To me, that's the most important thing any piece of literature can make a person do. And if you don't understand it, that's even better. Then, it prompts a second important thing, conversation. Notice, I said conversation, not talk, not ramble, not prattle, nor gossip. A conversation requires equal discussion, questions, and most important, listening and understanding. This once again requires thinking. Mulling over what the other person has said and using that to add to your own thoughts. Note again my use of add. It is not wise to disregard your own thoughts in favor of theirs, nor is it wise to disregard their own thoughts. Only time will tell whether the information will become important, or those thoughts will be employed. It's fun though, because even if neither of you come to understand it, you can always seek out someone who does or do some research (the internet has many answers, just make sure to validate the source), or you can just have fun creating various theories.
Sometimes, poems have deep meaning, sometimes, a lesson to be learned, but always, poems are to be enjoyed, and often wondered over. So regardless of whether or not you find deeper meaning, remember to have fun reading.
See you on the flip side, Meow.
