The Ship

I sit on the deck watching the water below us. It was the middle of the day. The heat from the sun on my skin. I turn to look at Jake, "Where are we going? It doesn't look like we're heading up." Jake turned to me with a map in his hands, "We, are making a little pit stop," he sets the map down again reading it his back towards me, as James continues to steer the ship.  "What why?" I ask my arms folded. "We just need some cargo for our journey." He says, still reading the map.

My mind starts racing about what that could mean. I mean normally I would think more food or water, or maybe more of that weird golden dust, but a little nagging thought made me think it was something more. I went down below deck, to the hallway, and I see a door open. I look inside and see that its the room I was in. I look at some of the other doors in the hallway.

I open the door right next to the room, and it seems to be a bathroom, though there are two doors, one leading to the hallway, and it seems the other one directed to the room I was in. How did I not notice this door? Probably the drugs, I muttered to myself. It was a tight space, with a single toilet and sink. It seemed clean, in a sense at least. There was also a big mirror on top of the sink. It was strikingly big, why would they need such a big mirror I wondered. I looked at myself in the mirror and was kinda startled at what was reflected back at me.

My hair was a mess, my perfect curls looked like a nest, all frizzy and wild. I looked like myself, for the most part, no real injury on my face or body, or at least from what I could see. But my dress was shredded. It had dirt all over it and the new beautiful light pink dress seemed to age 25 years.

I look back to the sink, on the sink, there was a single bar of soap and some toothpaste along with toothbrushes. It was very messy, with the toothpaste lid open and toothpaste along the rim of the bottle, and I even spotted some on the side of the sink. Their toothbrushes were scattered in the small sink. I left the bathroom and headed for the door across from the bathroom.

I open the door and look inside, it was dimly lit with the only light coming in from the window on the far end of the room. It seemed to be a kitchen.  A pretty modern kitchen from what I was expecting. The kitchen was also kinda tight, not as tight as the bathroom, but you couldn't exactly do a bunch of cartwheels in here. Everything was cold stainless steel, there was one big oven on the right side surrounded by counters, and on the left side was a big steel fridge, also surrounded by counters and a big sink. I wonder what would happen if the ships rocks too hard and the fridge falls on someone? There must be something here keeping it up, so it doesn't fall. I head for the door and take one last look at it, nothing special was here, I mean maybe some food but overall a pretty boring place.

I close the door and head to the door next to it. I open it and it was very dark, I could barely see anything. I mean wheres the windows? I could kinda see from the light in the hallway (which was lit by lanterns). It was again a small room with 2 beds against the wall and 2 chests on the foot of each bed. There were letters on them, I could barely make it out, but I could see the outlines of J's on both chests. I assume that if I could see better then the chest on the left would read Jake and the chest on the right would read James. Both chests had locks on them, hmm I wonder what's in there. So this must be where they sleep. There was nothing really more interesting about it, besides the fact that it was way neater than the bathroom. I closed the door and headed for the door across from theirs, the very last door.

I opened it and it was another room, just like mine. The bed was in the middle and there was a big window looking out at the water. There were cupboards of food, though there was no junk pile, from what I could see. Why is there another room here? Guess room perhaps? But why would they need another guest room? I'm now right at the window looking out at the sea when I hear a noise behind me. I turn around and see Jake standing next to the door, "What are you doing here?! You're not supposed to be here!" There was no anger in his voice, though it reminded me of my old teachers, and how they would talk down to me when I would do something wrong. "Why is there another room?" Before he could answer I asked him the thought that was worrying me, "Are you going to kidnap someone else??" He looked away, he seemed to have lost his words. "You are!" Anger rose in my voice, and I took a step towards him. He looked at me with an expression I couldn't place and said "I'm sorry Esmerelda." He slammed the door and I heard keys jingling locking me in. I run towards the door, and start banging on it. "HEY! You can't leave me here! Let me out!!!" I scream, but nothing happens, no one responds.

 I'm trapped.
