Payne is the son of Geoff and Karen Payne.Payne has a younger sister Rexha Bibiana Payne who is 4 years younger than him.As Payne was dealing with bullying in secondary school, he took up boxing lessons at the age of 12.Payne studied and graduated from music technology. Payne cites Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake as major musical influences which later at the age of 22 he decided to learn the guitar.Payne is know for being in the 1/5 of the British Irish boy band One Direction. He is known as one of the principal writers in One Direction, credited for co-writing more than half of the songs on the band's third album.
