Pine and Its Quality:
Pine Cirmolo or the Stone pine with needle shaped leaves, is well referred to as the “Queen of Alps”. It is a long lived species and grows at an altitude of 1600-2000m on the Alps. It begins its growth as a bush and gets bigger to a height of 20-25m.
These pine trees have grayish bark which thin and smooth in appearance. Traces of resins can be seen on its younger parts and the adult ones have brownish red chips and cracks on it. Its needle-shaped leaves make it distinct and unique amongst other species of Pinaceae. Its leaves grow in bunches and have a length of 5 to 8 cm, with dark colored top and grey color on its bottom.
The wood of the pine trees are used for making furniture, especially for wood paneling and bedrooms furnishings. If these woods are burnt as firewood, they produce strong odor and are resinous. Its properties prove beneficial for heart as it helps minimizes fatigue in times of high physical and mental stress. Also, according to a research, it was demonstrated that the quality of sleep is better in the pine bed. Moreover, wood paneling with old pine prevents it against moths and insects and also against wood borers. Stone pine is considered as a good anti moth as it reduces the growth rate of larvae.
