At the end of the game Loopville HS won, which is our school, 44 to 36. James always goes to the QB house each year and every game. Maybe it's because our house is boring or the fact that Logan has been James best friend since 6th grade. The whole football team goes over there whenever they win a game for our school. Mom told James to be home by dinnertime and he could bring Logan over to. So, I ask if I can ask Alex to come over ; Alex is just like me, but more cheerful and she has one leg instead of two that aren't working. Calling Alex will be my mission when I get into the car. Finally after 30 minutes, mom and I were driving home. 4 rings it took for Alex to answer.

"Hey"

"Hey Alex"

"What's happening, Conner?"

"I was wondering if you want to come over for dinner tonight?"

"What's Lillian making?" my mom's name.

"I don't really know"

"Of course I'm coming. Be over around 6".

"Great"

"See ya, Conner"

"Okay. Bye."

"Bye"

Disconnects.

We finally get home when a U-Haul moving truck is parked in front of our new neighbor yard. "I guess he wasn't lying about being 'new'" my mom says.

"I guess so" I reply back.

When we get into the house it's 12 o'clock and I'm starving.

"You hungry?" right on cue.

"Yea, actually I am, PB&J" I smile.

"Glad to make you one" mom leaves to go into the kitchen. I wheel myself into the living room turning on the T.V. to watch my favorite show: 'How to Get Away with Murder?'. Moments later mom appears with my sandwich, with no crust and in triangles. The only way I will ever eat a sandwich, no matter what it is.

"Thanks mom" I take a bite when my mom kiss me on my forehead. "What's that for?"

"Being you" she smiles.

So I smile back. It's like my instinct to smile when someone smiles at me. I started doing that when I started to go to group therapy at age 12. My mom thought since I started hurting myself and never left my room, it must mean I'm really depressed. Well, that was not the case, because every time I would try to get out of bed it would just take up all my energy. I just felt hopeless at the time and when I went into group there were so many people just like me. They sometime felt hopeless too, but they never gave up and never stop trying. That's where I also met Alex and she was my main hope of getting out of the stage of hopelessness.

Time went past really fast and before I knew it a knock appears at the front door.

"It's so good to see you again" I hear my mom answers the door.

"You too" Alex says so cheerful, no surprise.

"Come in, come in, Conner is in the living room"

I wheel myself around to see Alex dress up in a bright yellow dress, that went perfect with her dark skin tone. Her hair looks longer than the last time I say her, which was last month. She is very beautiful like always. I try to tell her this every time I see her.

"Alex" I smile. "You look lovely"

"Oh thanks Conner" she hugs my neck "How are you?"

"Hanging in there, went to James game today" I wheel myself back over to the spot I was at.

"Oh that's right, how was it?" She moved her head slightly to her left.

"It was... okay"

Alex tugs her ear, meaning she needs to tell me something important. That has been our signal since we first met, because I was so shy. If I tug my ear Alex knew I needed her.
