That moment

when the water stills against your skin

and you feel absolutely nothing.

your body is frozen still

and not a bubble of air escapes your mouth.

That moment

When you close your eyes

from the gentle glint of the sunlight

reflecting on the layers of sea

and enter a private realm

where time is hidden away.

Like when the lights flicker off

when the world is dark

and time becomes maneuverable.

That moment

When you dare not smell

when you dare not breathe

for fear of breaking the silence

that envelops you in cozy blankets.

That moment

When you block out the laughter

and the voices floating overhead.

When you keep the chirp of birds

and whisper of the trees

submerged.

That moment

when you feel lost from the world

but like

          you’ve just found yourself.

That moment

when you’re eyes are closed in a dream

where you are unclear to the world

But that moment

When you are safe

secure

That moment

when you are nowhere
