It had been three years since Zara was born, and Ozai had changed. He viewed her with something akin to frustration now. He was colder too, more calculating.
"She has so much potential," he would say. "If only she tapped into it." Ursa was pregnant again, with their second child. She, at the moment, was in the library with her daughter, who was currently browsing through a good variety of books. Suddenly though, Zara stopped.
"Mommy," she said. "Look a at how beautiful this is." Ursa positioned herself beside her daughter and observed the image that had captured her daughter's fascination. Her breath caught in her throat.
On the page of Zara's book was a beautiful scythe It was simple, and with intricately designed hood at the end of the flawless iron blade, reflecting off light like a mirror. On it's hilt were ancient runes that read, May Your Flames Burn Brightest. At the end of the ruby hilt though, was its far most terrifying feature. There was a celestial gold chain connected to the end, glossed with flammable oil. It's teeth were sharp and brittle, curved to wrap around one's arm without pain, but if an inexperienced hand should attempt to wield the scythe, would deal a devastating bite. Ursa cleared her throat uncomfortably.
"It's certainly impressive dear, but maybe you should admire something a bit more," she racked her brain for the correct word to use in this situation." Peaceful?" Mentally, Ursa cringed. She observed her daughter carefully. Zara's amber eyes snapped to hers, glaring.
"No," she said, eyes glinting maliciously. Ursa was aghast.
"What?"
"You heard me," Zara repeated." This weapon is beautiful, and dangerous and if I want to learn more about it I will!" By the end of her rant, her sides were heaving, and some loose lacks of her curly hair were out of place. Ursa felt her anger flair up.
"I'm your mother! You can't speak to me that way!" With a look a rage that only three year olds can manage, Zara picked up her book.
"Watch me!" she hissed, stalking off to the gardens, most likely to find her father. Ursa stared her, shocked at Zara's sudden change in attitude of violence. And for the first time, she could see Firelord Sozin, her daughter's great-grandfather, in her.
