She looked down once again at the bowl on her lap. In it, was petals. Mikasa then felt more immense pain rise up in her chest as more petals came out of her mouth.

Her chest felt like a bunch of spines were poking out of her, making it harder to breath. This was the disease, Hanahaki.

Hanahaki Disease- A illness born from one-sided love, the victim coughs up petals and flowers. It may be removed by surgery, but if removed with surgery the victim will loose all the feelings for the person. Another way to remove is if the person the victim loves, loves them back.

This disease has three stages

1) The Person will start out by coughing petals, the petals will often get stuck in the throat, which will end up being coughed up or vomited.

2) The petals will go to either flower buds or bloomed flowers. It will grow with the thorns, which will cut the throat making them cough and vomit blood.

3) The last stage. The roots from the flower will grow throughout the lungs, causing the person to suffocate and die.

There are only 2 ways to remove this illness.

1) You can remove with surgery, if so, the surgery removes all the feelings you used to have with that person.

2) The person can love you back.

Mikasa just got in stage 1. She got it when her crush, ever since she was little, Eren, got a girlfriend, Annie. Mikasa is a senior in highschool and has no parents or hardly any family left. The only person she knows of, is her cousin, Levi. They haven't talked since Mikasa's parents were alive.

Mikasa learned about it in school, and it was infact very rare to be diagnosed with. The feelings has to be strong enough to grow a flower.

She thought of getting surgery, but couldn't bare the thought of losing all her memories with Eren. All the laughs, conversations, and jokes they made together, would've been a waste.

Mikasa decided to still attend school tomorrow. She looked in the mirror, seeing her pale face, her mouth red and a little piece of a petal under her bottom lip.

Mikasa couldn't go to sleep that night. She tried, but couldn't. Her throat was raw and her chest hurt like hell. Almost every 2 hours she would cough up half a bowl of petals.

Once morning came, Mikasa was very tired. She got some fruit and was about to eat, but was only able to swallow a little piece of a banana. Before she left she coughed up more petals.

Mikasa walked outside and was greeted by the gust of cold wind. Mikasa just hoped that nothing would happen at school.

Mikasa entered the school and saw everyone she normally saw. She approached her locker and did her combination. Mikasa was then greeted by one of her close friends, Christa.

"Hiiii Mikasa!" Christa said holding her books and giving a toothy grin. "hello" Mikasa replied getting some books from her locker. Christa and Mikasa had a conversation when..

Mikasa spotted Eren and Annie making out in the distance. Mikasa was about to run to the restroom when.. cough. Mikasa coughed a flower petal right in front of Christa. Mikasa widened her eyes and Christa was shocked.

Mikasa quickly closed her locker and ran to the restroom with Christa chasing her. Mikasa ran to the restroom as she passed by Eren and Annie. Eren then went in front of Mikasa to try to start a conversation.

"Hey Mikasa, how's it go-" Eren was then cut off with Mikasa coughing another petal. She then pushed past him to the restroom.

Once Mikasa was in the restroom she quickly went to a stall and shut the door while she threw up a bunch of petals and flowers. The door to the restroom then opened.

"Mikasa! Are you in here?" Mikasa heard Christa say in a worried tone. Mikasa tried not to make a sound, but started vomiting again. She heard the sound of her stall door open as Christa patted her back an started to comfort her.

Once Mikasa was done she flushed the toilet and tried to avoid eye contact with the small petite girl. "Mikasa, you didn't tell me you have hanahaki.." Christa said in a sympathetic tone. "I got it yesterday" Mikasa simply answered washing her hands.

"I-is it Eren?" Christa asked trying to face Mikasa. Mikasa was silent for a while until she answered. "yes" Mikasa answered while looking down. "Awww, It's ok, it's ok!" Christa hugged Mikasa and patted her back, comforting her.
