She was sitting at her desk at the back of the classroom with her headphones on. Probably listening to Ed Sheeran, like she always does. The teacher couldn’t see the headphones because of her blonde long and wavy hair on the way but I knew better. Our eyes met and she smiled. Oh, how I love her smile. It reaches her chocolate brown eyes and her face lights up. Not only her face but mine too, she has that kind of effect on me. I love how she laughs at stupid jokes I make and she still blushes after 2 years when I kiss her. Do you know that song that says “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please, don’t take my sunshine away.” That’s part of how I feel for her. She’s my sunshine and she’s the one who makes me happy. A loud voice interrupted my thoughts about her.
“Everybody on the ground. NOW!” The voice clearly belongs to a man. Looking up I saw a figure standing at the door wearing all black, a hockey mask and a gun in his hand. No one dared to moved, too scared and shocked to do something. Pointing the gun at us he repeated. “I said NOW!” I threw myself at the ground and when I looked up I saw the most disturbing thing ever. She wasn’t on the ground! She was still on her seat with her eyes closed, completely relaxed listening quietly to her music. He must had seen the same thing as I, because he started to shout things while aiming his gun at her. I was shouting too. Saying she hadn’t realized the situation yet because she wasn’t listening. Begging him for her. For him to not do something like that.
Something must caught her attention, because her eyes opened. But when she looked up and reached for her headphones, a sound was heard. A sound I wish I had never heard. Her face showed fear and her eyes wandered around the room till they landed on mine.
The bullet hit her stomach, and her face showed nothing but shock and pain but she didn’t look down. Her eyes remained locked on mine the entire time. Her hands were on the bullet wound when she hit the ground. I couldn’t see her like that, alone and suffering. So I started to crawl to the back of the class. The guy was next to the classroom’s door right to the teacher’s desk panicking. When I passed a babbling jock hiding inside of a cabinet I took my phone and threw it at him telling him to call 911. I sat next to her on the ground, took her head and placed it on my legs. She had tears all over her face and her hands were bloodied. There’s nothing worse than seeing her like this. I removed her hands of the wound and tried to stop the blood with pressure. Looking at the jock I tried to ask if he had called already. He gave me a nod. I try to put all the attention on her, trying to calm her. Saying that everything would be alright, she would be alright. That I’m right here with her and I’m not going anywhere, I’m not leaving her side anytime soon.
The classroom it’s not silent anymore. The sound of the fire alarm echoing around the walls filling the entire room and the whole school probably. The man it’s not here anymore and everyone has his back against the wall. Except for us two.
The door jerked open but this time it was a security guard. He started to usher everyone out but he froze when he saw us. His face went white and he started to have a panic attack. It was our teacher that calmed him down and went for help.
