I was almost glad to see the helicopter pad, the chopping of the blades where making my head spin. There was a small air port directing air traffic surrounded by trees making it seperate from the city. Something within me was so terrified of doing this but I had to commit, there's no turning back. I quickly stumbled around to get ready to jump. The soldier pointed at the ground, telling me to jump first. I crouched over the edge staring down at the ground. Motion slowed and I inhaled slowly closing me eyes before leaping out, falling through the darkness until the ground hit my feet, sending vibrations through my body. I moved out of the way waiting for my partner to join me. I looked up at the helicopter not seeing any movement.
Wtf if this guy doing! Great their going to leave me to die
When suddenly a big black silhouette dropped in front of me, crashing to the ground effortlessly, making my fall look stupid. It was another soldier, a woman, the man must have chickened out, or just refused to die next to me.
"Through the trees then onto the street!" She pointed past the small buildings and into the forest.
"Follow my moves and do not leave any evidence anyone was here" she shouted and began to run.
We darted into the trees, dodging fallen trunks and rocky terrain. His shadow slowly began to fade as I fell behind her, I forced myself to catch up and keep my focus, but it was hard not loosing concentration when the constant thought of your possible tortured death was in your head. After what felt like hours we noticed faint sparkles of lights poking through the trees.
The noise of sirens and vehicles echoed pass the forest, it was our sign that we where in the right place. We neared the edge of the forest and soon came the street in sight.
Cars wizzed past, drunk men and woman stumbling down the street, ally ways lit by burning trash cans, stray dogs barking, gangs breaking havoc down the street, it was all a mess.
"Down that street corner and on the right is the warehouse, you can't miss it" she whispered "follow me and do not make eye contact with anyone" she tightened her pack and slipped her knife into her hand, I copied her afraid.
He slipped out of the trees and across the street, so far we where invisible.
We sped down the sidewalk nearing the corner, slipping around the bend 3 shadows smashed into us. My fingers clutched my knife as I jumped up only to find it was some lousy teenagers having a smoke.
"Piss off ya bugga" cursed the boy coughing on a breath of lung cancer before moving off with his group.
Immediately we continued on our feet, and there it was..the FAMINE warehouse, or whatever it is. It was huge like a giant hospital, with 3 metre high barb wire fences, the windows dripped with rust and bars over them. My partner hesitated for a second before moving into a near by ally way.
"This is not what the blue prints looked like, they must have been out dated" she panicked. She rummaged around in her bag worrying about the plan.
I began to look around. The ally was small and tight, the barb fence had an electricity warning and any other entrances probably had security cameras, but just over the fence was a vent, the perfect size for my body.
"There! The vent" I whispered, she looked up and I could tell she hated the idea
"That's a damn 3 metre high electric fence, you'll die trying!" She rolled her eyes
"You can hoist me up on the opposite wall and I can try jumping over it" I blurred out
She paused and looked back up at me, she then looked at the choices. The opposite wall had a gutter pipe down the side, if she could hoist me up on it I could climb k little higher just over the fence and then kick myself off and over to the other side, knew she could see where I was coming from.
"At the moment it's the best plan we've got" I said already getting ready.
"Fine! But what are you going to do when you get in there, how do you know where the vents go, only I know the blue print" she sighed then she froze before diving back into her bag and pulling out an ear piece. "Put this on, I can talk you through it!" She said excitedly. I took the bit and secured it onto my ear.
She then held out her hands beside the wall, I tightened my back and took a running start. I leaned forward and onto her hand as she pushed me up. I grabbed onto the pipe and began climbing further up. I glanced over my shoulder and saw I was well above the fence. "Now!" I heard her call out from below. I gulped down my fear and didn't think twice about it. I kicked off and flew over the tip of the fence. I collapsed onto the ground and brushed myself off. The vent was stubbornly placed and wasn't difficult to get the cover off. I yanked off the cover and it fell to the ground crashing. I sounded like a church bell ringing down the ally.
"Shhh Hurry up would ya" she hissed
I began crawling through the space and decided to pull out a head lamp. Ahead of me lit up from the lamp and immediately my partners voice crackled in the ear piece.
"Ok listen carefully. You'll have to somehow get on the 2nd floor, the information centre, to do that you need go straight ahead and then a left, this is the only left your taking" she clearly spoke.
I crawled inch by inch on my knees an elbows of the foil vent.
"Then what?" I asked "try climbing up, then take the next right, then up again and then another right" she instructed.
I looked up the shaft and began clawing my way up, sweat forcing on my forehead, suddenly to my right was another vent which must be the one I need to take even thought the shaft still went up. I continued the instructions until I asked for the next move. "You need to hurry! Go straight ahead then up and" she went quiet. I tapped my ear piece trying to listen for her voice.
"Then?.." I asked, my voice shaking. All I could hear was the distant noise of the street and ally way I once was, when suddenly the familiar crashing and ringing sound of metal being moved sounded. My mind buzzed with thoughts when I suddenly realised, the noise was the vent cover I'd left off on the ground. All of a sudden I began to panic, my heart seized and my chest felt as if it where collapsing. I struggled to breath when suddenly my ear piece buzzed and then went silent, whoever found the other ear piece definitely found my partner. Quickly I retraced her intrusions, straight ahead and right" I thought And began crawling quicker. As I moved down the vent I couldn't find a right turn, the only choices where left and up. I studied the paths thinking hard.
I turned to my left and began moving when I suddenly realised, she said I would only take one left which was on the beginning. Quickly I backed up and began climbing up, struggling to get a good footing as I began panicking more. I neared the top And took the only path. Then came a hatch that dropped down into a dark room. My only choice and hopefully I was on the second floor. I popped it open and fell through. It was a small closets filled with gowns and trollies. Panicking I cracked the door open, I saw a long grey and white hallway lit up by musty lights, occasionally someone would run past with a clipboard or trolly, I looked on the walls looking for any indication of where I might be but there was nothing, I'd have to hope for the best. I waited until the last person turned the corner until I grabbed a trolly and began walking down the corridor trying to act natural. I had put my bag on the trolly and slipped on a gown to blend in. I continued down the hall and took a left. Another hallway, signs which read
Medic lab, intense care, filing lab
Filing lab, it must have some useful evidence. I headed for the filing lab door when suddenly a voice echoed down the hall from behind me.
"Hay! This is a restricted area, patients will be punished for leaving their rooms" shouted a male voice
I didn't dare turn around but that made me even more suspicious. I dropped my head and pretended turned around to return, although he was suspicious.
"How did you get out?" He asked curious I glanced up and shrugged hoping he would buy it.
Suddenly he reached for his pocket when I jumped him, tackling him to the ground, I pulled my knife out, flicking the blade open but was stopped when another voice called, "stop! Rogue subject! Help!" Yelled another man as he ran towards me, I quickly slid my knife into the mans shoulder before tacking off down the hall. I turned another corner and crashed into another room, the doors crashed open and I was immediately surround by clutters of cabinets and trolleys pilled with bottles and medical equipment, suddenly sirens rang outside the room and I began shaking in fear. I darted around and saw more doors, I ran for them desperate for an escape and flung then open when suddenly in front of me crowded a group of surgeons or doctors leaning over a bloodied table, they tuned lifelessly at me. My body was over run with fear and anxiety and panic, I swerved back out the doors when suddenly the doors crashed open with people, a large table of tools stood between me and a dozen full grown men with weapons except one who stood at the front. His face covered in pure evil and a gross smirk of pleasure.
I frantically stood there waiting their move, when he chased towards me I grabbed the nearest bottle containing a yellow chemical, squirting in over his face, as more people inter feared they screamed in agony as the acidic liquid ate away at there flesh, although the one guy stayed untouched but the flesh eating substance, I continued to pour it on him but he resisted. He grabbed my shoulders throwing me to the ground, my back smashed onto the floor and my head smacked on the tiles. My ears rungs and flashes of pain shot through my body. Suddenly my legs and arms where being pinned down one by one, I fought for so long, refusing to give up. His face appeared over my shaking body, his hands caressed my pounding head, I shook in fear, wanting to die. "Kill me!" I hissed through my teeth" but my words had no power. He was immersed in my eyes, it made me sick. Suddenly he pulled out a large needle, the tip oozing with liquid, quickly and emotionlessly he jabbed the needle into my right side.
"Uuhg!" I cried out in pain as I felt the cold liquid travel through me, hopefully it will kill me. Slowly my vision began to fade, sounds began to distort themselves and colours faded with my mind. My eyelids grew heavy as I tried to stay awake. Feeling left me body, I felt as if I were floating. So tired I could barely keep my eyes open, I hoped this would be my last moment, but something told me the sickening look in his eyes that this was only the beginning.
