Hermione Granger awoke on her 18th birthday, the sunlight shining in her eyes. She was startled to see her parents  standing above her.

'Mum. Dad. What are you doing? Why are you standing there?' she asked.

'Well, sweetie. We have something to tell you, but please don't get mad.' Her mum said, nervously.

'What is it, mum. Spit it out.' Hermione said jokingly.

'Well, dear. You aren't who you think you are. You are in fact Hermione Merope Gaunt, heir of Salazar Slytherin, grand-daughter of Voldemort.'

'Does that mean that you aren't my parents?' Hermione asked, her bottom lip quivering.

'No. We are in-fact pure-blood wizards: your mother's real name is Jean Lestrange, and I am Jeramiah Gaunt.' Her father explained.

'You mean to tell me that I have been bullied and looked down upon by Malfoy and his little followers for all these years for nothing?' Hermione said, angrily.

'Yes, but just think of the revenge you can exact once they find out.' Her father said.

'I suppose that is something to look forward to.' she said, somewhat evilly.

'Now, Mione. You might experience some different feelings - become more spiteful, and mean. You will also gain more power, more than you could ever have expected, and your appearance might change.' her mother put in.

'What? You mean I won't look like a beaver anymore?' Hermione asked.

'Yes. In fact, dear, you look very beautiful.'

Hermione squealed and ran to the mirror. However, when she saw herself, she wasn't expecting the image that came before her: Her hair, whilst previously a bushy brown, was a sleek, wavy black, reaching down to her waist, which was several inches smaller. Her eyes were now a piercing emerald green, and her complexion was paler, more of a porcelain than a peachy tone. As she looked into her eyes, she felt a zing of power, and she shivered.

'What was that?' she asked.

'What was what, honey?' Her dad asked.

'I just felt a sudden surge of power.' Hermione said.

Her mum looked at her dad. 'Honey, I think you are beginning your surge.'

'What is that?' Hermione asked.

'It is when you receive your powers, and when you come of age in our family. Usually, we have our surge a few months after our birthday, so you seem to be starting yours early.' said her dad.

'That is a sign that you are going to be very powerful, did you know that?' Her mum said.

'No, I did--- ARRRGGGGHHHHH.' Hermione screamed.

'It is beginning. We need to get her down to the bunker. Now!!'

                                                                                   ***

Ten days later, Hermione emerged. Well, actually, she kind of floated on a cloud of power. Her parents were in the drawing room when they heard the crackling. They looked at each other.

'Hermione. She's awake.'

                                                                                   ***

They hurried downstairs, to find their daughter literally floating on a cloud of magic.

'Hermione, dear, are you alright??' Her father asked.

'Yes, father. I am perfectly alright- Oh. What is this?' she said, as a letter shot through the window.

Picking it up off the floor, she saw that it had her name on it.

'Oh, look. It is for me.' she said, breaking the seal and taking out the parchment inside.

Anxiously, her parents awaited her reaction, and watched her face fall.

'ARRRGGGGHHHHH.' She screamed. 'THAT LITTLE WEASEL. HOW DARE HE DO THIS TO ME.'

Like it was fire, she dropped the letter one the floor. Looking at Hermione, and, receiving her permission, her mother picked it up. It read:

Hermione,

I'm sorry. I don't want to do this anymore. I have someone better than you could ever be. Don't respond to this.

Ron.

Looking up from the letter, her parents looked at one another. They knew something was about to go down.
