I stare out the window, watching the droplets of rain bounce as they hit the ground, sparkling like crystals. Most people find rainy days depressing and lonely, but I've always been fond of them, ever since I was little. I would run out in the rain with my rainboots on and stare up at the sky, twirling around laughing. Whenever the water pours down on me I can feel all of the stress washing away, and I can escape to my own world.
I try to finish my homework, but my eyes are repeatedly drawn back to the door. I bite my lip and slowly make my way towards it. I glance out the window and can't help but smile. I throw on my boots, put on my raincoat, and run out the door. I start out with a walk, but find myself breaking into a run, holding my arms out like a little kid. I block out the world, I am alone in my mind, without any restrictions, like a leaf fluttering through the wind.
Before I know it I'm near the harbor. I stare out at the water, and watch the ripples sway as it's pounded by the rain. I hear a loud splash far to my right. I casually walk past the trees, towards the sound. I can feel my eyes widen, and my mouth open. In front of me is the most beautiful sight I have ever seen. A boy stands there, levitating water with his left hand, the turquoise water matching his light eyes. He laughs and spirals the water up into the air like magic, little tiny drops glistening as they remain frozen in the air. His pitch black hair makes his eyes radiate a hypnotic blue glow.
I slowly step out from behind the trees. He wouldn't have noticed me if I hadn't stepped on a twig. He jerks his head in my direction, a look of shock and worry crossing his face. I try to speak, but all I can manage is a soft stutter. The water suddenly drops from the air, and time feels as though it slows down. He backs up, but trips over a rock. He quickly stands to his feet, and with one last glance he takes off.
"Wait!" I shout, "Please wait!"
I should say more but my mind is blank. He runs into the water, his feet balancing on the surface. With smooth jumping motions he glides across the top of the water. I try to run after him but I quickly sink down, shoulders deep. As I'm about to go back, I try to get one last look at the water boy, only to find our eyes meeting, this time he shows more curiousity than worry.
I see the perfection my eyes didn't pick up before. He has a well-defined nose, big child-like turquoise eyes, and hair that flicks up on the sides. He has a thin build but doesn't look weak. His face emits innocence, and he looks about 16 -- a year younger than me. I feel water drip down from my hair and slide down my face. I turn to head back, not wanting mom to worry.
When I arrive home, I'm unable to finish my homework. I feel like I've seen him before, a long time ago. The memories are there, but I can't seem to access them. When I visualize his face I feel a safe, friendly warmth.
All I can hope is that I'll see him again.
