So... as you all know, I'm female. I don't really enjoy it, though, due to all the stereotypes around being female. I've been asked frequently throughout my lifetime why I don't wear makeup, why I don't like pink, why I hate lace, etc. The answer is quite simple: I. Just. Don't.
There's no rule that says "All girls must wear skirts, dresses, high heels and makeup, as well as like lace, pink, dolls, fashion, etc." Stereotypes make someone's view on a female... distorted. We don't ALL like makeup, dresses and skirts. We don't ALL like dolls and fashion.
Some women take charge. Some like things other than makeup and dolls. Some like me absolutely despise lace, ruffles, frills, and girls clothes in general. That's okay.
Everyone is their own person. It would be boring if every girl liked the same things, wore the same things, and acted the same way. Same for everyone else in the world.
I, personally, never wear makeup, high heels, skirts, dresses, frills, lace, ruffles, or the color pink. I personally want to throw up when I look at girls clothes. I hate it.
Every single clothing item is basically saying, "I'm a girl. I like pink, lace and frills. I need to show my body to the world." (Before I get any comments about this, yes, I know there's items that don't practically scream that.)
Even though there's shorts and pants for girls, it's all TIGHT. Leggings? Tight. Jeans? Tight. Sweaters? Sometimes tight. Shirts? Tight. Are you sensing a pattern?
I know I am. I'm constantly reminded that I'm "supposed to" like doing hair, and makeup, and dressing up, etc. I'm constantly reminded that I'm a girl. I've been told this throughout my entire life: "If only you wore makeup... what a shame...", and, "You would look SO CUTE in that dress... try it on?"
I'm tired of it. So what if I'm not "normal?" I like things too. Like black, grey, dark blue, black, red, more black, sweaters, tee shirts, and more black. (I wear a lot of black)
Just because i don't like the things I'm "supposed to" doesn't make me any less of a female. Stereotypes and people who believe the stereotypes have pushed me to write this. It makes me mad when I hear people talk about stereotypes. But only when they're supporting stereotypes.
I realize that not everyone feels that way, and that everyone has different views on stereotypes, but this is my view. Let me share it.

RandomFor some reason, a lot of people think it's important to ask a person why they don't engage in certain societal expectations instead of considering just how stupid and unrealistic those expectations are. This leads to a lot of harmful stereotypes an...
