     "Nothing apparently." Joan says
"Are you fucking kidding me?" I jump off the couch and run to the basement to try and turn the power back on. Nothing happens.
"Fuck" I say while running back upstairs.
"Joan can you start grabbing some candles and bring them to my room and light them. I'll grab the food." Meanwhile Jess has already found her way to my room. When I walk in she's looking at the pictures on my dresser.
"Whos that?" Inbetween the pictures of me winning awards and attempting to play sports she points to the picture sitting in the middle of the dresser the picture is of me and a dark skinned girl with gaint curls and freckles standing on a beach. I smile.
"That's me and my girlfriend." I say while I start to think about her.
      "Your........girlfriend?" She ask.
"Yeah my girlfriend. You do know I'm gay right?" I laugh.
"No I didn't" she tilts her head
"Is that an issue?" I cross my arms. Oh if this bitch is homophobic I swear-
"No no, not at all it's just where my parents are really religious and the town I moved from was really conservative so I've never actually met a gay person" her expression softens into a smile, almost like shes happy I'm gay.
"Well this is definitely the most diverse town you'll ever encounter" Joan says sarcastically as they enter the room.
"The only minorities at Westfield High are me, Charlie, and Delia. Everyone else is straight, white, and cis." Joan shrugs and sits down. They aren't lying though. Delia and I are the only gay people that are out at our school and Joan js the only open non-cis person at our school, and considering how some people treat us its not a shocker more people aren't out. Delia is they only black female in our entire sophomore class, her family is only excepted because her step-dad is whitest person you'll ever meet. After Joan sits in a chair I go onto the bed, and Jess sits on the floor.
"So, Jess, tell us about you. What do you like? Where did you move from? Why did you move?" Joan ask
"Well my name is Jessica Harper, I like to read books and listen to music, troye sivan and the 1975 are my favorite. I used to live in Mississippi but because of certain circumstances my family decided if was best for us to move."
"So interesting....." I roll my eyes.
"We want to know more like how your life was back in Mississippi, did you get into drama if so why, what happened, SPILLLL." Joan says getting a little too nosey.
"I'd rather not talk about it." Jess says looking down. Everyone pauses, there is a brief silence.
"LAME." I yell and roll off the bed. "I'm bored Joan, what should we do" I know Joan, and I know they have an idea of what we should do.
"Well I'm glad you asked because I happen to know that you have a well stocked board game cabinet and I also happen to know the queen of all board games and shes sitting in this very room" Joan turns to me and before I can say anything Jess says
"Oh my how did you know I was the queen!" With a very big smile. I roll my eyes and start to walk out the door when Joan tells me to sit down and that they'll pick the game.
"Ugh fine" I say as I sit back down on the bed. There is some silence before Jess finally says something.
"What happend to your arm?" She says pointing to some bruises on my hand.
"It's, uh, nothing" I lie as I pull down my sleeves. We sit there in now akaward silence until Joan comes back with the board game Cards Against Humanity.
"Yessssss, Joan you are my best friend." I lunge at them to give them a hug.
"I know, I know" they shrug and sit on the floor. We soon begin the game.
After an hour or so of playing the power comes back on, we end the game with me in the lead, Jess close behind and Joan with literally 3 cards.
"Okay, for real though, you suck at this." I say to Joan as we walked back to the living room. They smile and shake their head. When we get settled back on the couch we decide we should introduce Jess to Sherlock, so we spent the rest of the night watching it.
