So the story takes place further in season 5 like in the second part of the season, episode 15-24. But here is an alternative end of season 4 and first episode of season 5 .

Today, is the day, the day she left. It has been exactly a year since she left without saying anything. She left behind a lonely father and a broken boyfriend.
She needed to, no she has to, for her carrier, for her personal life..for her mother but mainly for the unit. She ruined her life to let other have the perfect one.
"I know you wouldn't understand any of it but I have to go, I have to take the job. I need my mom out of jail, I need the unit to keep making Chicago safe. And I need you to move on and be happy, you deserve to."
Erin was on her couch, her stuff pack around her, as she pressed the send button tears start rolling down her cheek. She knows that it will destroy him, but that was it, she needed a year to be back on her feet.
1 hours later
She wasn't expecting any answer of him, she wasn't expecting anything. She said goodbye to Hank, send this text to Jay and had poste letter for the rest of the unit. Erin was about to leave her apartment, her principal stuff where is her car. But she needed one last look, she needed to keep on her mind all the good memories that she had inside over the years.
She first felt safe and free in it, time passed and she felt alone and then those beautiful blue eyes came to make it warmer. First as a partner, then as her best friend to end as a boyfriend. They were all the laugh in it, with Kim, Adam or Kevin, they had such fun time all together. But they were the tears also, the sad time she had alone and then the one she opened to Jay. Jay, he was the center of her life, the rock in her pretty messed up life.
Erin open up the door, step a foot inside and everything came back as a giant slap from life. She felt happy, sad, angry, hungry and free all at the same time. She collapse one last time on her couch, it was going to stay here, like it will be waiting for her.
"At least you send me a goodbye text. But I was hopping to hear it from you, in person." She turned back just to see the one she loves, getting inside her empty appartement.
The space wasn't cold anymore, wasn't empty, he was here. Erin has admired him for that, the way he has to full a room with just his voice.
Jay's POV
First I felt relief, she didn't left before I could talk to her. She was still here, everything was out but her body, her mind, her beauty was still here.
"What are you doing here Jay ?" She wasn't looking at me. But I could tell that she was crying.
Her raspy voice I was afraid that I would never hear it again.
"I wanted to see you, one last time, before you.. you know go." I'm still talking to her back and my heart increases the heartbeat. As my hand let back the red velvet little box inside my pocket.
Erin's POV
Of course it will be coming, after all he deserve it, one last talk, one last.. no not that. Otherwise I will never leave. I heard him close the door and slowly started to come next to me.
"So do you get my text ?" Dumb question, if he is here means that he had. For the first I was stressed around him. He must have feel it because he took me in his arms and place a soft kiss on my head.
