𝔖terafeya never had much of a choice when it came to her life. Whether it was being brought back to life by a stone half the galaxy would kill to get their hands on, or coming to Earth, being left in the care of a complete stranger, adapting a new identity. She wasn't at fault for becoming one of the galaxies most sought out fugitive for having one thing that everyone seem to want yet didn't understand the power of. It wasn't a choice to not lose her parents and severe every tie she had to her home planet, Xandar. It wasn't her choice to be left in charge of the Continuity Stone. She lived a simple life. Never striving, never attracting. She was just existing. Stuck longing for something a billion light years away and in the past. So out of reach that it made her feel hopeless.
The only thing connection she felt came when staring up at stars. Every night, after each tiresome day, she sat in an old lawn chair on the roof of her apartment building. There nothing happened. Up there the world didn't see her. She was alone. Safe. Her bullies didn't exist up there, her fake grandmother wasn't chatting her ear off. All that culminated during the day, rested at bay during the night.
She had been doing it for years and never once an interesting thing had happened. Not a shooting star, not something coming down to rescue her or kidnap her. She's gotten used to that feeling of hopelessness and melancholy that came when the stars started to appear.
The something fell—crashed to be precise— on her roof. It wasn't a star, nor spaceship, nor a was it the Iron Man or the Falcon, it wasn't even a freaking bird. It was a friendly neighborhood protector with a red and blue onesie that looked straight from the Goodwill racks. He went by the name of Spider-Man and was someone who hoped to do some good and be the hero that looked out for the underdogs.
From there on an unlikely friendship developed between the two. In time her feelings of hopelessness faded away as Spider-Man inspired her to stop gapping at the stars and to finally reach for them.
If only that was as easy, breezy as it sounded. If only reaching for the stars didn't involve training to conquer her fears, facing her past to finally let go, saving New York from threats from her past and accepting her destiny.
She was about to learn that reaching for the stars was a grim and painful process. One that she didn't think she could make it through.
