Rainstorm's pointy ears twitched as Snowstorm groomed her wings for her. "I can do this by myself, thank you." Rainstorm growled. Snowstorm glared at her. "I'm only trying to help. Mum said that we both need to look nice, Rainstorm! Sit still and let me groom your wings."
An hour later, Sky's family made their way to the neighbourhood. "Wow, this is what you wasted my time for, Snowstorm?" Rainstorm muttered. "Shut up." He quickly responded, eyes fixed on the huge houses.Thunderstorm licked at a branch of a fallen tree, and Rainstorm leaped over it. "This is absolutely amazing!" Rainstorm exclaimed. "Yes, this is where we're staying. It's dangerous at the rubbish bins." Sky replied calmly. The clouds grew fat and heavy with water, and Rainstorm could tell a downpour would happen any second. "Where will we shelter, Mum?" Snowstorm asked. "There!" Sky said, pointing towards a small house with no door. It was abandoned, Rainstorm thought wildly. The space there was alright, but it was freezing. "It's cold..." Rainstorm murmured before falling asleep.
The sun lightly beamed at Rainstorm's face and she sprang up, excitedly. She spread her wings out to stretch them. We're going to test our flight today! She thought. Her siblings woke up, eyes beaming as well. "I'm sure I'll succeed quickly. I'm the only one who has hygiene, and behaves." Snowstorm boasted, flicking his tail. "You'll all succeed." Sky murmured as she woke up. How could she not be energized? Although she wouldn't fly, they would.
Rainstorm watched as Thunderstorm perched on top of the garage of the abandoned house. He spread his wings and leaped, and he succeeded. Feathers flew everywhere, yet Thunderstorm fluttered around like a thickset moth. Next, was Snowstorm. He didn't even shudder, he just hopped. He failed! He danced fearfully in mid-air then fell straight on his bottom. "Come here, Snowstorm. You require more practice." Sky called. Snowstorm, unsure if he could get up, dragged himself to his Mum. At last, Rainstorm was called up. She took a deep breath and spread out her wings. Neatly groomed by her brother, she leaped and nearly fell. Using all of her strength, she succeeded to flutter about and after a few moments, flew like a thin crow. She padded to Thunderstorm and smiled. "Where are they going? Do they stay with us? Until I fly?" Snowstorm panicked. "No, son. Their time has come; they'll be living on their own now. You need to learn flight, first, though." Sky explained.
Rainstorm and Thunderstorm said goodbye to Sky and Snowstorm and headed off. "Where do we go?" Rainstorm asked. "Flying race, then I'll tell you!" Thunderstorm happily said. "Oh, fine! You big o'l —" He interrupted her, "Let's go!" He said. They started at a yew bush, and they set off happily. Even though her brother was in the lead, Rainstorm felt relaxed as she soared through the sky. "I win!" Thunderstorm shouted as he landed straight in a bush filled with fat chipmunks — that they would probably eat later. Rainstorm, panting, collapsed by him. "Where do we go, seriously?" She asked. "Follow me." He replied.
They found themselves in a large meadow. "Interesting." Rainstorm huffed, sitting down and folding her wings. "Yeah, I heard Mum speaking of it. She was raised here." Thunderstorm said, staring at the sky. "Hmph. It must've been incredible!" Rainstorm smiled. "We should get the leaf beds prepared. Mum said foxes and deer roamed here as well, but they weren't troublesome. We could make leaf beds under those patches." Thunderstorm barked, scampering towards the patches. Rainstorm followed.
