The chilling snow stung her nose. Harsh winds buffeted her face, and she shivered, trying to shield it. "It's just a dream, Seishin. It's just a dream." A faint howl swirled in the wind, and her heart started to hammer in her chest. It didn't sound familiar.
Footprints as far as she could see led to this point, two pairs. "Is anyone here?" She cried, swiveling her head. There was no response, and apart from the mountain and pine trees, all she could see was white emptiness. There appeared to be no one with her, but she felt as if hidden eyes were watching her.
Something whispered in her mind, sending an icy chill down her spine. Run. He is near.
A whimper escaped her lips. Mother better wake me soon. This is a nightmare, She thought nervously, blankly staring at the cold snow below her pads.
She huddled closer to the pine tree, providing little shelter from the wind, but she jumped as the howling started again, much louder. She began to back away as a massive pack of wolves hurtled down the mountainside, jaws snapping angrily and fur bristling.
Run.
Before she could decide whether or not they were going to kill her, her legs were carrying her farther, farther, farther. As long as she kept running, they could never catch her.
Whoever they were.
