These characters are the definition of depression. They are sad basically every second of their lives and are more than often misunderstood. Utsuderes are not simply sad though, they struggle in their personal lives.
Note: so I couldn't find any image results under utsudere that were actaully utsuderes so here's a few characters that I would say fit the description.
