Keera was the girl in the back row with the messy unkempt hair, lanky body, a T-top hanging on her shoulders, jeans covering enough skin to not attract attention and a lip balm for make-up. She knew she wasn’t good looking and she never resented that. She never tried to be like those other girls, the ones with the push-up bras, smoky eyes and minis in winter.
On this summer day, Keera had carpooled with the snob next door to school. The 15 min journey to her school was silent yet painful! As soon as the car stopped, Keera flew out of the car, thanked Mr. Double Chin and his wife Mrs. Nosey as hell for the ride. Their daughter, Nosey Double Chin and her brother, the snob followed her like her shadow. Great start to a crappy day she thought. Her "Women instincts" told her something bad was going to happen. SO Sshe decided to be the good girl that she and be as obedient as she could be.
A few hours later, there she was sitting on the school ground, looking at two butterflies playing tag behind the bush. The first bell went off and so did Keera’s imagination. She looked at the chocolate pansy, the lines on its body reminded her of her aunt’s sinfully delicious chocolate cake. How the melted chocolate looked when she poured it. The stream narrowing as it escaped the container, the ripples on the cake and finally how she evened it all to pour another layer of milk chocolate. The thought made her stomach growl. That snapped her back to reality and she was reminded how she had to miss breakfast because Ayan (the snob) was TOO LATE FOR SCHOOL.
She thought too herself, how selfish the boy was for not offering the granola bars he munched during the ride. Right then one of the butterflies sat down on her knee and just as she moved her fingers to touch it, she was startled by the harsh voice of Madam Gupta, the asst. headmistress of her school. “MISS JOSEPH WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!? “She shrieked. Keera looked around the now empty ground, no sign of any soul. She looked back at Madam Gupta who was looking back at her with what she felt was disgust. “Ma’am I was...” her voice barely audible even to her. “YOU WERE WHAT KEERA!? THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME I HAVE CAUGHT YOU IN TWO WEEK OUTSIDE YOUR CLASS” shouted Madam Gupta. “YOU ARE COMING WITH ME TO THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE!” she commanded as she yanked Keera by her hand. Keera almost in tears now, thought to herself, A PERFECT START TO A HORRIBLE DAY!
