My mother had wished to have a child, but now that I'm here, I wish she hadn't even thought of a child. My name is Gwen Lotus and my mother has kept secrets from me my whole life. My own origin and what I really am have always been cast in the shadows because of her. She only did this to protect me and hope that the legends weren't true. But of course, they were. So now I shall tell you about my life being wired together.
It all started when the queen (my mother) had wanted to bless the king with a baby. Particularly an abnormal girl. So she tried to have an unusual baby with her husband, but all they got was either a dead, or a regular one. As the king grew tired and old, the queen got desperate and decided to pay a visit to the town's witch who lived on the edge of FrighteningForest.
The queen left the castle at midnight and arrived by foot at one. She daintily knocked on the door and awaited the witch's appearance. Moments later, the witch's stout body and warty nose opened the old wooden door.
"Ah...Your majesty. What brings you to my home this fine evening?" The witch gave her a wicked smile.
"Um...May I come in, Sabella? I have some matters I need to discuss with you." The witch opened the door wide and ushered the queen out of the cold night.
At the witch's dining table, the queen started to rethink all of her ideas, almost wishing she hadn't come to ask the favor. But when the witch sat down, it was against her rules to bail out now.
"Well? Is there something your poor heart desires my dear?" She cackled as the queen's look hardened.
"Indeed, there is something the king and I especially long for. We wish to have a child." The queen held up her slender finger to silence the old witch when she started to argue.
"Although we have many children, we want a unique baby girl. We have only been blessed with normal boys. There is nothing wrong with them, but, we want a change. The king is getting tired and old, but is still restless for a beautiful, innovative girl that he can adore for the rest of the little life he has left. I will pay you a small chest of gold each month for the rest of my life. Please, Sabella, please! We need this baby, this amazing child." The queen felt tears rolling down her cheeks, staining their small, rosy surface. The witch then cackled again and spoke.
"I will grant you a child, if, you let me create her to my own design. The way she walks, talks, and everything else; original, as you put it." The witch smiled as the queen nodded quickly.
"I shall let you do whatever you want to create her. Just give my king and I a girl. A beautiful one."
The witch silently stood up from the rotten wood table and went over to her cabinets to take out a beaker filled with sparkling water (at least it looked like water), and then a beaker filled with bright red liquid. The queen watched the witch with curiosity as she poured half of each into a goblet and stirred. The witch then brought it over and had the queen drink it down.
The queen saw the room spin as the liquid set in and then fainted in the blinding light it brought to her eyes.
When she awoke the next morning, she found herself back in bed with the king, and feeling my strong kicks against her womb. The queen sighed happily and sang me a tune as I kicked and kicked to her rhythm.
About nine months later, I was brought into the world. I, Gwen Lotus, was welcomed as the freak of the century. I was born in a crumpled ball, with a crooked smile on my face, and was beautifully dashed with pinky-red skin. And when I say crumpled ball, I mean my legs looked like they were as bendy as wire, my arms were wrapped around my back and back to my front again, and my neck was bent all the back to were I could've touched it with my chin.
