“Hey Nicole,” a familiar voice said.

I looked up from where I was sitting and saw my best friend of almost five years, Niall, standing in front of me. “Hey Niall,” I smiled. He sat down across from me and grinned back at me.

“What’s up?” I asked looking back down at my homework.

“Nothing…I just found out when prom was going to be,” he admitted nonchalantly. I nodded, and kept working on my homework. “That’s cool. Isn’t the theme like masquerade or something?”

“Yeah, it is. You should see how crazy all the girls are going. I’ve seen at least five people get asked to prom within the past hour.”

I laughed, “aw. That’s cute. Are you going?”

He smiled and nodded, “yeah. Well I mean, maybe, but I’m definitely leaning towards yes, I just need to ask out the girl I want to take. And then she has to say yes, and if she does well then I’ll go to prom.”

“Cute. I’m sure she’ll say yes, I mean who wouldn’t want to go to prom with the sweetest boy in the whole school?” I asked.

Niall shrugged and blushed, “never know. How bout you? Are you going?”

I shook my head, “Most likely not. I’m not really into dressing up. Plus then I’d have to start looking for a dress and it’s expensive and yeah, I’d rather just stay home and watch t.v. or something.”

“What if someone asks you to go though?” he asked confused.

I shrugged, “I’ll most likely turn them down.”

He frowned, “but you should go to prom, it’s our senior year.”

“I don’t know, we’ll see. Anyways, who did you want to ask to prom? Is she pretty?” I winked. He nodded and bit his lip, “yeah. She’s gorgeous. I’m going to ask her to prom today.”

“Aww! Can I come watch you ask her? Please? Please? I promise I’ll stand quietly feet away and I won’t embarrass you!” I promised. Niall laughed and shook his head. He brought his backpack to his lap and began to dig through it. He kept looking until he found what he wanted; he pulled out a medium sized, but still small box and handed it to me. He looked at me, “Open it.”

I looked at him confused but did as I was told. When I opened the box, I saw all my favorite candies at the bottom. There was a CD with my name on it, and a folded piece of paper. Niall nodded toward it. I gave him a weird smile and unfolded it anyways. The words “Prom. Me. You. Yeah?” were scribbled across of it.

“Do you want to go to prom with me Nicole?” Niall mumbled quietly, turning bright red.

I stared at him at and looked down at the box, noticing that everything in it had something to do with me and Niall. The lyrics to our favorite song scribbled across the box’s walls, inside jokes written everywhere, our picture taped to the top of the inside of the box. I slightly smiled, and looked up at him. “I’m the girl you want to go to prom with?”

Niall shyly nodded and looked down at the floor.

“Yes. Yes I’ll go to prom with you Niall.”

Niall continued to turn red and smiled back up at me, “really?”

I nodded, “of course.”

“Yes!”

I let out a giggle and picked out a candy from the box, offering him one.
