Chapter 1- Miranda's P.O.V.

"Have a nice day!" I smiled when I handed a customer their pastry.

She smiled back and walked away.

"Hey Miranda, it's time for your lunch break." My friend Sophia told me.

"Okay, you got this covered?" I asked her.

She nodded her head.

I took off my apron and went into the kitchen to hang it up under my name plate.

"Good luck Sophia," I turned to face her, "These people can get pretty cranky if they wait to long."

She laughed, "Yeah, I've been in that situation."

I walked out in front of the staff restrooms and went inside. I used the bathroom then came out and washed my hands.

I came out and opened a door in between where the customers eat, and where we make the food. I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the familiar face of a customer that comes here every other day. I didn't have time to just stand there, I only had thirty minutes until my lunch break is over.

I speed walked out of the cafe, but caught a glimpse of him looking at me. As I exited the place, I had a smile on my face. I love it when he comes in, but I want to be the asking for his order. Every time I'm not working, someone else takes his order. It's usually Sophia who does it, and Sophia knows that I like him.

Maybe if I come back from my break early, then I can take his order!

I rushed into my car where my lunch was, and ate it all in a hurry.

After I finished my food, I was not feeling too good. I guess I shouldn't have eaten all that at once. I rummaged around my pocket to find a mint, but I didn't have one. I groaned in frustration and went back into the cafe.

I saw that the man is still there and he hasn't gotten his food yet. Okay, that's good. I quickly walked past him and went through the doors to where the staff works.

I waited until Sophia was done giving a man his order.

" Hey Sophia, I'm back." I told her after she was done.

She looked my way, "So soon? You still have fifteen minutes left."

I just shrugged my shoulders, "Well I just love my job, so I decided to keep on working."

"Okay," she took off her apron then looked at me, "You don't look too good."

"I'm fine, don't worry."

"Alright." She went to go hang up her apron and I got mines and tied it around myself.

I stood behind the cash register and watched everyone eat.

"Alright, so in exactly five minutes, he will come over here and order something." I mumbled to myself as I looked at my watch.

"Okay, in three, two, one." I looked up, but no one was coming my way.

I looked at the table where he usually sits, and I see him with a girl! They're laughing and talking. Oh how I envy her with her beautiful hair as it flows when she pushes back. I looked at my hair; my hair is so plain, brown, and curly. I ran my fingers through my hair and my fingers got stuck at the tips.

I sighed. That should be me sitting with him, not her. Oh who am I kidding? The girl looked my way to look at the clock above me.

She's gorgeous! Of course he would hang out with her, instead of an ugly, messed up girl like me.
