»»————- ————-««Accalia lets out another sigh as she sits back in her chair. She tries to focus on the elaborate dinner that's been set before her, but she can't. With Miles' death a week ago and Harry leaving her rather abruptly, she's been finding it hard to keep keep her mind on one thing. She doesn't enjoy things the way she used to.
It's like a dark cloud has settled upon her, and all the joy that she used to see in the world is gone. She's barely slept in the past couple of days and she doesn't eat as much as she used to. She's been at every meal at the dining room table with her parents, which means that she's been there to see the Harlequin perform, but she doesn't pay attention.
She can't even look at him without thinking about all of the things she did with him. She cringes when she thinks about how they laid together on multiple occasions. She shouldn't have had sex with him a second time. Doing so caused her to become dangerously attached to the Harlequin in a way that's going to be difficult to get over. Accalia knows what it means. She's in love with him whether she wants to be or not. He had been there when she was most vulnerable, he listened as she talked about her most painful memories, and what did he do?
He left her.
He left without a care in the world. He left like it was the easiest thing to do. Accalia felt foolish for letting him in, trusting him, and ultimately falling for him. She should have listened to her gut when she was worried about his intentions. She had feared that he was using her, that he wanted her for her body and not for herself.
The Harlequin made her feel beautiful and wanted. He had looked at her like she meant something to him. It's clear now that it was all a lie. He had played her and she had allowed it. There's nothing she can do to take her previous actions back, but she can avoid him from this moment on. She can't allow him to take advantage of her again. He showed that he doesn't actually care about her, and the thought is almost too much to bear.
"Accalia love, Edward's asked you a question," Constance says, leaning over to poke her daughter's arm.
"Hm?" she says, jumping out of her stupor. "I apologise, but I don't really care if he's asked me a question."
"Oh come on, don't be so mean," Julian says with a good natured smile. "He was merely being polite and asking if you were enjoying your dinner." Accalia turns her gaze to look at the Harlequin and she narrows her eyes at him.
"It's not his job to ask me if I'm enjoying my food," she says coolly. "His job is to entertain us, and he hasn't been doing that." She can see hurt flash through his eyes but she doesn't care.
