Thump.. Thump.. Thump..
I felt as if everything was going in slow motion, my feet hit the ground one after another. I kept running, surprised I had even gotten this far. I was out of breath, and my throat felt like it was on fire. My mind was growing dizzy.. I couldn't keep this up for much longer, but I was determined to get away from that hell if it was the last thing I did before my dying breath.
It didn't take long before I finally let my body collapse onto the forest floor, my knees sunk into the wet soil, the cold feeling was calming against my skin. I knew now that I was down, I wouldn't be getting back up. I had run my body to the point of exhaustion and my muscles are done for. I felt hot tears run down my cheeks, and onto my neck as I leaned my body up against a tree's trunk.
I looked down at my soiled pale feet which were no doubt covered in layers of mud from running. The mud trailed up as high as my lower thigh, and splattered the pale yellow dress I had been wearing. A gash led down my left thigh, it stung like someone putting salt to a wound, and it continued to bleed like no tomorrow. So this is how I leave, covered in mud and a teary eyed mess. But I was free, so I could leave happily.
I sat there, weak boned and motionless waiting to be done for. But that time never came, I never died. I didn't know whether to be happy or sad at this point. My cheeks were tear stained and a bit frost-bitten from the cold air of the night, and I could feel goosebumps covering my pale arms and legs. Yes, I was alive. My hands reached for my tangled brown hair, feeling the slightly knotted and greasy strands of hair.
I was brought back to reality when a faint noise of a branch cracking rattled by my ears, I wouldn't have the energy to fight, and moving much would just end badly.
Snap,
Crack.Another few footsteps echoed, they weren't far behind me. I attempted to turn myself around and peek around the tree trunk, but the scent hit me before I needed to see anything. More of them! It had to be, it just had to. They were here to bring me back to that hell where they would punish me for running away. I curled back against the large tree, another river of hot tears dripping from the eyes.
I thrashed when something grasped onto my wrist, pulling me from my position on the ground. "Who are you? Why are you here?" I was met with a pair of gold, dark green eyes and a tanned skinned, raspy toned male. I flinched at the hostility of his voice, and shut my eyes as tight as I could. "Answer me!" The man shouted again, before I felt myself drop onto the wet soil once again.
"Daniel, calm down. Is that any way to speak to a lady?" Another man's voice poked itself in. A grunt was heard before the air grew thick with tension, I groaned and picked myself back up and positioned myself so that I was sitting on my knees, using my as for balance, pressed firmly against the dirt below them.
"Y-you, Bastards..." I grumbled, pulling my head back to look at the man who stood in front of me. Daniel, I believe his name was.
"Watch it, kid. You're on Trisure territory." He spat right back before he once again, picked me up by gripping tightly onto my forearm.
"Daniel, shouldn't we bring her back to camp?" The other male poked himself in again, this time he was answered by the brute holding me.
"Yeah, we should. She can talk to Alpha. Plus, with this leg wound.. she'll need to get a few stitches." Daniel agreed before his face softened, looking me over a few times. "Can you walk?" He finally asked.
"I-I don't know.." I murmured, surveying my beaten and bruised leg, with the gash, and many smaller cuts from thorn bushes along the way, I wasn't really sure if It would be good to walk on it. I shook my head, deciding I wouldn't make it very far on it anyways.
"Kory, contact Beesus for a change of clothes and a doctor at the pack house by the time we get back." Daniel suddenly seemed like a totally different person, he was genuinely getting me help because I needed it. Maybe he wasn't such a heartless brute after all.
"Come on, you aren't going to strangle me if I pick you up-- right?" He asked, looking at me with a bit of curiosity. I shook my head as I was picked up, I honestly never liked being picked up. But who was I to fight back when I needed the help? My heart was pounding with fear, I didn't know who these people were, or where they came from, or why they were helping me, I was afraid and I didn't trust it. I was exhausted, and couldn't keep my eyes open for more than a few seconds.
I was shaking, unsure of whether I trusted these men or if I should fight back and run away. The rain started up just then, beating against the back of the brutes carrying me. Against me own skin as well. But that was all I could think about, was the heavy impact each rain drop made when it reached the surface of my skin.
We stopped suddenly, when a growl erupted from in front of us. Followed with a shiver of the men who had helped me.
"Mate..." Was all I needed to hear before it hit me, a pull, a need to be near whoever was now approaching us. I hated it.
"A-Alpha... we were just on our way back. The one carrying me spoke hesitantly, my mind was too muddled to remember who was who anymore.
"Give her to me." The man, who I assumed was their Alpha, spoke again. In a rather threatening voice, I shrunk back.
"Yes, Sir." The other male spoke, the one who had suggested they bring me to their pack ground. My eyes were covered with the rain, no longer shielded by a chest. "Be careful with her left leg, it's wounded." I heard, but I couldn't feel the pain of what they were speaking of. It was numb.
At this point, I didn't try to look up at who was now carrying me. I grumbled, struggling a bit in his hard grasp, but it was no use. I couldn't get out, not with how weakened my body felt.
I had given up, and let myself flow into a deep sleep.
