Shane was staring at the salty waves and the rising sun as the sea breeze played with her jet black hair.
It felt good to feel a little bit of calm again. The last year had been hard for her.
Her final exams, romantic and friendship issues and other problems had brought her a huge demotivation which had made it difficult to see a point in going on sometimes.
But now that summer had come she had decided to give herself a little present. That was the reason why she offered her friends Ane and Eric to go on a cruise through the Atlantic.
Seeing herself surrounded by only water didn't scare her but made her feel relaxed. No land near them. Every reality that wasn't that ship and her friends had been left behind, allowing her to disconnect about real life.
Shane had woken up very early to see the sunrise that day. There was nobody but her at the boat deck yet. Just her and the intensifying sunlight.
"So strange you woke up that early today."
Her heart jumped when she heard that unexpected but well-known voice. Shane turned around and saw Ane's face.
"I couldn't sleep and I wanted to see the sunrise.", she answered.
Shane wondered how long she had been there since she suddenly realized there was starting to be many people walking around.
Ane told her she and Eric had already had breakfast and that they were going to watch a movie at the ship's cinema on the first floor.
A few minutes after Ane had left, a wide yawn came out of Shane's mouth. That made her think of how much her body was asking for some coffee.
She went right to the second floor where the bar was and ordered a great cup of coffee with a bit of milk and some digestive biscuits.
As she waited for the food, Shane took her phone and checked her Twitter notifications as she used to do every morning.
A young waitress finally went to the table she was sitting at with her desired breakfast. The blonde girl put the food in front of her and showed her a birght smile before she walked away. Shane thought she was pretty and her memory made her ponder of how long it had been since the last serious relationship she had been in.
Suddenly, a really loud noise followed by some screaming got her out of her own thoughts.
Shane immediatelly stood up and ran outside. She went straight to where a huge crowd was gathered, looking at something down to the water.
The ship had hit something. Something peaked and bright had pierced the bottom of the ship's hull.
What peered out of the water was a golden tower. Shane stared at it both afraid and admired. It looked exactly as one of the castles always described in fairytales. She had a short flashback about her childhood right before her mind started to work properly again and two names came to her mind: "Ane and Eric".
Extremely worried, Shane remembered what Ane had told her before breakfast. Eric and she were probably already at the cinema. That was on the first floor, downstairs. That meant that if the boat had got cracked, the water would get there first.
As she had believed, the water was starting to fill the ship. There was no doubt it was sinking fast. Shane saw a lot of screaming people running upstairs. But she couldn't see any of her friends' face among the big crowd.
She had to go down and find Ane and Eric.
The ship's electric system had already stopped to work so it was darker down there. Once she had reached the last stair, she realized the water was up to her knees.
Shane continued to walk through the hallway straight to the cinema room. There was only a few people left running towards the stairs telling her to get out of there and go upstairs. But there was no way she did it until she had found her friends.
"Ane! Eric!", she screamed at times.
Already at the cinema room, she discovered there was nobody left in there. She felt relieved because that meant they all were already outside.
The water was up to her waist by then.
The jet black haired girl was going back to the stairs again. This time it was harder to walk because the colorless liquid was gaining height. Next to the stairs, the water was surrounding her neck. She nearly had to swim.
Before she could make it outside, everything faded to black.

Pink. That was the next color Shane could see. Then she observed she was surrounded in blue. There were also some green spots.
It took her a while to start thinking straight again. Shane realized the pink color was hair. She looked up and saw the pretty face of a pink-haired girl. She was carrying Shane in her arms. The green and the blue came from the water around her. She was underwater, she couldn't breathe. She was drowning.
The pink-haired girl watched the girl saved by her's face turning red. She remembered humans couldn't breathe under water but she knew how to give them some air. She took her lips close to Shane's until they touched. Feeling confused, the jet black haired girl recieved a full-of-life kiss that gave her oxygen but left her breathless at the same time.
That mermaid was stunning, she thought as she discovered her also pink tail.
"Hello, my name is Sara", she smiled at her.
Shane's mind was unable to process anything at all. Had she died and was heaven actually a place under water?
Wether it was real or a dream, the situation couldn't be more strange. She was being carried by a beautiful mermaid named Sara and, in front of her eyes, a shining castle gained size as they were getting closer to it.
