I never thought that I would sing live, let alone with Mandy Gonzalez. Okay, I never thought I'd be fostered by her either. But, here we are. Together, we walk into Cafe Carlyle. I let my breath shutter, showing Mandy that I'm nervous. She sighs beside me. "Honey, what's wrong?"
"Well, I've never sang in front of people before. I mean, I share my singing through YouTube, but never in front of actual people. Listening to me in person. I'm scared Mandy." Mandy hugs me.
"What happened to my fearless girl?" She asks and I shake my head.
"I'm not fearless in this way." I say, hoping she'll read between the lines. That the last time I sang in front of anyone it was with my mama.
"This isn't about being fearless. What's this about?"
"My mama and I used to do shows at the public theater every now and again. I don't think I can sing live with anyone else."
"I bet she'd be proud of you if you did." Mandy tells me and pulls me into the dressing room. I change in her bathroom while she changes in her actual room. I change into a black shirt and pink and black fabric shorts.
"Are you decent?!" I shout out.
"Yeah!" Mandy shouts back with a laugh. I walk out and Mandy gasps. "Oh my goodness, you look beautiful." She tells me with a smile.

"Thanks." I say, a hint of a smile on my own face. "You look good too." She wears a beautiful, long, purple dress.
"Thanks sweetie." Mandy hugs me really quickly before the manager tells us it's time to start. I start to freak out again. "Carly, calm down love. Breathe. Respira. In and out."
"Do you really think I can do this?" I ask. Mandy nods calmly.
"You can do anything."

"Everyday, I wake up with a new found purpose. But everyday, I'm trapped inside this crazy circus. So everyday I have to get out of the way of everyday.
"Everyday, I want to fly but end up walking. And everyday, I can't be heard through all their talking. Everyday another roadblock's in my way but I have to find another way around. I can't just stay here staring at the ground!" Mandy sings. She gives me a look that says 'Your turn'.
"Cause everyday, there's a new direction! There's a chance of working it out! And everyday, I might find the strength to say that I won't give into everyday." People go crazy, whistling at me. I continue, Mandy just watching me.
"Everyday, another reason why I shouldn't. And everyday, another person who just couldn't. Everyday there's disappointment on the way but I can't be stuck here, back stuck against the wall. I must get wise and rise above it all!
