Mortal AU

-- Gore Ahead --

Percy had woke up, tbe image of Annabeth with her face expressionless, scratched, etched into his head. A trail of blood spilt from her mouth, down to the pavement below her. Her eyes were wide as she scrambled to get out of the way of the falling rocks but there was too many and she was trapped. Her life came to an end as the boulder landed onto her chest, just in the correct place to break a rib and puncture her lungs. Or that's what Percy thought happened as he thought of why. They were about to burn the burial shroud: a silver banner with an owl, prominent in the centre.

-

The drunken driver had ran straight into Annabeth's Dad's car. She flew through the windscreen, glass embedding in her face and body. They called it the most horrific incident of the century as many more cars were unaware of the crash and continued driving, only to meet injuries to add to the list of many others. Annabeth was one among the few that suffered from majour injuries and then lost consciousness, only to fall into a permanent sleep. Her picture hung on the wall in the town centre, where they put the tribute to those who died. The picture was one of her laughing, her blonde curls falling around her face in waves, it was taken by her boyfriend. He kneels down, placing the flowers and standing up, to walk away.

-

Annabeth had always hated the spiral stairs that lead up to Percy's apartment. Her knees always ended up aching and she was fed up. Percy always teased her about it, when she complained. He found it funny and she did, too, realizing how stupid it seemed. She was on her way up, one morning, it was later discovered that this was the day that Percy was going to propose to her but she came too late. A boy with dyed purple hair rushed down the stairs, pushing Annabeth and sending her tumbling, backwards. She took too many hits to the neck, effectively snapping it, introducing her to death.

-

She shouldn't have stuck a fork in the toaster. She knew that. She was just too tired to think, or that's what he told himself.  Annabeth had been unbelievably exhaused and wasn't thinking. Sluggishly, she had shoved the fork in, only to be met with a sharp burst of energy. It flowed through her veins, making her jolt. Eventually, she fell to the floor, limbs bent at awkward angles and her heart took it's last, weak, beats.

-

He found out when the news rung through the kitchen. "An adolescent female's body has been found on the shore," the reporter said. "She has been identified as Annabeth Chase, daughter of Fredrick Chase. Her mother remains anonymous. It was said that her male partner, Perseus Jackson, is still unknowing to this situation," and he lost it, sudden tears streaming down his face. What was he going to do? She was gone. His life was gone.

-

The fire alarm had set off at around 2:30 AM. Being the lost alert in her house, she was the first one out of the fire. Once her step-mum and dad were outside, she realized that one of her brothers was missing and ran back into the inferno. That was the last time her family saw of her, the last time anyone saw her. The last images of Annabeth were of her running in to save her brother, only to be unsuccessful.

Percy had just got home from visiting his mum, kicking his shoes off and announcing that he was home. On a regular day, his girlfriend would meet him at the door, pressing a kiss to cheeks. However, some days, she hid around the apartment, just to joke around. It wasn't big news for Percy to know that Annabeth had been crying in the duration of the day. She has had a hard life. So he walked around their apartment, calling that he is coming to find her. His breath caught in his throat when he entered their bedroom. Her feet hovered above a chair, she was hanging her. Her head was limp, rope tight around her neck. A note lay on the chair, below her feet. He read the note aloud:

"Dear Percy,

You found me, huh?  Sorry, sorry, sorry. Just let me go, I'll be happier. I promise that I'll look after you. All I ever wanted as a kid was to be remembered and I realize now that I will never me. But I found you, I found a life, I found someone who will always remember. My name may never be plastered across billboards, my name will never be the one to leave hundreds of people's lips. But I know that you will. You'll always remember me. People told me that you spoke about me a lot, Seaweed Brain. Keep doing that, okay? And maybe, just maybe, my name will not just be on the list of suicidal girls and will be remembered, not  by the world, but the people I love. And now, I realize, that's good enough for me,

Love, Annabeth x '

He jolts awake, realizing that he was in his room at his mum's house. Annabeth was gone. She was gone. There was so many possibilities, ways she could go. And, yet, she chose to end it herself.
