The Sun and The moon

Soft crackles, wisps of embers escaped through a fireplace, a smooth yet soft voice spoke in time to the crackling of the fire. Small bodies belonging to children sat atop a fuzzy rug, all children gazed upon the elderly woman, her skin wrinkled from age, eyes still burning with so much fire despite her age, a leather bound book, pages crinkled and stained from old age, was being held by a pair of hands, equally as worn down from time. Shining white hair framed the old face, the burning eyes, which were a soft blue, the female paused in her speaking as one of the many children, a young boy in fact called out, “Can you read the moon one again!” Hearing the cries of agreement, she chuckled softly, it did not matter how many times the children nor the edlerly woman read the story, it still held a special place in the hearts of the people.

The woman sat forward in her rocking chair, a warm grin spreading across her face as she begun to read, “Not long ago. In a kingdom much like this lived a kingdom full of townspeople, who enjoyed the sun immensely, the sun was worshipped amongst the kingdom… Though, the moon was often looked over, the people not appreciating what the moon done, only looking forwards to the days where the sun basked upon them with warmth and raised their crops,” The female was interrupted by a curious child, “Was the Moon jealous of the Sun?” The question brought a soft laugh from her, “No my child, in fact the Sun was jealous of the Moon..” She paused, watching the confusion spread amongst the children, “You see the Sun was jealous of how the Moon was able to bring rest and a sense of peacefulness amongst the land, the Moon appreciated what the Sun did, but the Moon… The Moon was growing weak, his power weaking and slowly the Moon was dying…”

Nights like these, the Sun, or better known as Asim, were amazing… He thought, gazing upon onto a mirror he held, looking upon the sleeping earth, the beauty his Moon (Asim in complete denial that the Moon was earth’s… the Sun enjoyed calling things of beauty his…) was able to bring upon the earth was incredible, it left the Sun in a state of disbelief. Though, as days continued to go, he was noticing how the Moon seemed to be… becoming duller, loosing its glow and just becoming sick, Asim frowned, shifting in the large throne he sat upon, his eyes looking away from the mirror he held, his eyes fell upon the glowing mass of his energy, he held so much… He could spare some right?

“So the Sun, with his task in mind, set it out, though the Sun could only travel during the time when the Moon was out, if the Sun was gone during his time of day, it would leave the earth in a state of darkness for 12 hours..” The elderly female paused, letting herself catch her breath as the children leaned forward, they were getting to the best part after all. “The Sun set out, carrying an orb of his own energy, a dangerous task for him, if he was to be slain or damaged while he was out… The Sun itself would die..”

Asim grunted, his eyebrows furrowing together as he pulled his blue cloak closer to his body, the Sun never knew the night got cold, as he radiated warmth and light all his life, he could not imagine how lonely and cold his Moon was…

“And there, my children, is where the Sun was more right in his life, as the Moon was incredibly lonely, no one seemed to love the Moon enough, and after thousands of years of loneliness, did the Moon begin to let himself become a former shell of its glory, the Moon coming down with sickness that no one seemed to know how to resolve.”

The Moon sat in silence, eyes full of so many emotions that it seemed like a storm, gorgeous blue eyes clouded with emotions. Soft blonde hair framed a soft face, sores seemed to decorate the poor Moon’s skin, his breathing labored. Tiberius seemed to sit upon a thrown of ice, his ball of energy, was pitiful, barely brighter than a light bulb, it would take a miracle to save him… But the Moon wasn’t worried, he would be leaving the Earth to his bright and warm Sun, one who loved the Earth immensely, he wouldn’t have chose a better one to leave the Earth to… “Unknown to the Moon, the Sun was going through a dangerous journey, to make sure his Moon is safe and alive…”

“God…” Asim murmured, a glowing ball on orange light was pressed against his chest, his clothes were littered with tears and stains, he glanced up at the transparent staircase that ascended up towards the Moon, his Moon. Asim slowly walked up the stairs, fighting the need to run up those stairs, his Moon was so weak, barely any light came from his Moon. It seemed to take hours before the Sun stood outside the large doors to his Moon, his hand coming up, it took all his effort to open the door and once he did his eyes widened as they fell upon the sick form of his Moon…

“When the Sun had finally found his Moon, there was a rush of emotions to both of them, The Moon overwhelmed by his Sun’s brightness, and the Sun, oh how he was memorized by his Moon’s beauty, the Sun had went through this dangerous journey, and finally, he released the ball of his energy, giving it to the Moon, and he watched memorized at how it seemed like a jolt of life went through his Moon. The light and beauty the Moon held was restored… After that, the moon and the Sun became mingled, becoming the most beautiful star in the galaxy…” The elderly woman closed the book, a gentle smile crossing her features, “Misses! Is this story true!” Many of the children cried out, a soft smile caressed her features, “That is something you should all ask yourself…” She murmured…

In the kingdom they lived in, in the middle of the market stood a tall statue, where two males stood in a neverending moment of love, and looking from the Sun stood a male, a gentle smile on his face as he gazed upon the world where the sleeping beauty of his Moon slept…
