Camila cursed in frustration as she struggled to unlock the door of the dorm she had lived in for the past 3 and a half years. She was halfway through her senior year of college and was ready to move forward and take on the world. Ever since she was a little girl, Camila had dreamed of being a teacher, and now she was finally going to be able to live that dream.
After almost 5 minutes of messing with the lock, Camila finally managed to get the key to turn. With a groan of relief, she flung open the door and dropped her bags onto the floor. "Cheechee I'm home!"
"It's about time!"
Camila turned around to find the source of the voice. Her roommate, Dinah, was sprawled on the couch, a half-eaten bag of popcorn in one hand and the TV remote in the other.
Camila and Dinah had been roommates since their freshman year of college and from the moment they had met, the two had immediately formed a close bond. There was just something special about their personalities that had allowed them to instantly form a connection.
Camila kicked her shoes off by the door and made her way to the couch, flopping down with a huff. "I would've been here earlier but Professor Dunham made me stay after class to discuss the essay I wrote for his midterm,"she explained, rolling her eyes. "I'm so ready for Christmas break to finally get here."
"You and me both, kid," Dinah yawned and nodded nodding in agreement. She sat up and raised both arms in a stretch. "I'm tired of college but it's already too late to drop out."
Camila laughed and leaned over to take the remote from Dinah. The Polynesian girl whined in refusal but Camila shrugged her off. "Nope," she declared, shaking her head. "My turn."
Dinah huffed and sat back into the cushions of the couch. She crossed her arms and scrunched her eyebrows, making her look like an upset 5 year old. "Whatever, the others are gonna be here in a little while anyway."
Camila stopped flipping through the channels on the TV and turned to face Dinah. "What time are they supposed to be here?" She asked, wondering if she was going to have enough time to get herself ready.
The other girl picked up the phone that had been laying in her lap and scrolled through her recent messages.
"Ally said she'd be here around 7 and Normani and Lauren said 7:10." She informed. "It's only 6 so we've got time."
For the past 2 years the five girls had made it a tradition to get together every other Friday to have a movie night.
Camila had been best friends with Lauren for years before they graduated high school. They had planned their college together because they couldn't stand the thought of being hours away from each other. Now Lauren lived on the floor above them and would usually crash with Camila and Dinah whenever she felt too lazy to walk the extra couple of stairs to her own dorm, which was an often occurrence. Every once in a while Camila would find items of Lauren's clothing mixed with hers.
Normani was Lauren's roommate and a good friend of Dinah. Lauren had brought her over to Camila and Dinah's one night during their freshman yeah after Normani had gotten dumped by her boyfriend and didn't want to be alone. Camila, Dinah, and Lauren had spent that whole night comforting her and helping her crop him out of every picture they had ever taken. After that, she started coming with Lauren every time they had a movie night.
They met Ally during their sophomore year while they were at the coffee shop that was a few blocks away from their dorms. They were trying to decide what movie to watch when Ally, who was sitting in the booth next to them, apparently overheard their conversation and sided with Dinah, who had wanted to watch The Little Mermaid. They got to talking with her and found out she was also a sophomore that year and invited her to their movie night. Surprisingly, she said yes and had been coming ever since.
Camila nodded and stood up from the couch. "Okay well I'm going to go take a shower and change into some more comfortable clothes."
She eyed Dinah, who was already in a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie since she only had morning classes that day.
"Since you seem to have already taken care of that," she teased, "do you want to get the snacks ready?"
Dinah ignored her comment and stood up, shaking the sleepiness out of her legs. "Sure."
Camila turned and headed to the small bathroom, but not before she caught Dinah trying to sneak a chocolate bar under her arm.
"And don't eat all the snacks before I get out!"
"You're not my mom!" She heard Dinah yell back indignantly. Camila just smiled and shook her head.
An hour later Camila was laid out on the couch dressed in an oversized hoodie with their university's logo on the front and a pair of her softest sweatpants. She had her leg propped up on Dinah's lap and stared mindlessly at the TV while the other girl scrolled through her phone.
After a few minutes, Camila shook herself out of her daze and looked at the time on her phone. She groaned. "It's already 7:15 where-"
She was interrupted by a loud knocking on their door.
Camila jumped up off the couch and almost tripped over the blankets that were laid out on the floor while trying to make her way to the door.
"Woah there Mila," she heard Dinah call from the couch, "someone's excited to see their favorite person today."
Camila paused and turned to glare at Dinah who was peeking at her from over the back of the couch with a huge smirk on her face. Dinah was the only one who knew about Camila's longtime crush on Lauren and boy did she love to tease her about it every single chance she got.
"Don't you dare." Camila threatened, ignoring another, louder knock on the door.
Dinah blinked innocently, though her eyes danced with mischief. "I have no idea what you're talking about, sweetie."
Camila narrowed her eyes. "I'm warning you."
She turned back towards the door, where the knocking was getting continuously louder and shook her head, mentally preparing herself. She flung it open and was met with a fist only inches away from her face.
She opened here mouth to say something but before she could get a sound out, she was tackled by a girl with bright green eyes.
"CAMZ!"
