That night, Felix was in my hut (or his hut rather) eating dinner with me. He kept looking at me from across the table.
"Do I have food on my face?" I jokingly asked.
"No, he began," you're just the prettiest thing I've ever seen."
I was a little taken aback at his comment. Was Felix being romantic? No. He'd been stuck on an island for ninety-two years, how would he know how to be romantic? I tossed the thought aside and continued to eat. Suddenly he jumps up from his seat and kneels at my side.
"Y/n, I have really come to care for you. Ever since you arrived on the island, I've not been able to think of anyone or anything else. I know it's a little soon, but would you be with me and never leave?"
I didn't know what to say to that. I had only known Felix for a short time, and while I did like him, I didn't know him all that well.
"Felix I'm going to have to say no for now. I don't know you very well. Can we please take some time to get to know each other better first?"
Felix hung his head at my words. When he finally looked at my face, I saw tears swimming in his eyes, threatening to spill over. He rose to his feet and slowly walked to the door. He opened it and looked back at me. He gave a sad smile and was gone. I felt horrible. But what was I supposed to do? Jump into a relationship with someone I hardly knew? I got up and took the dishes over to the sink. If he was going to be that way, he could. I hurriedly washed the dishes and fell into bed.~time skip~
I woke up the next morning and groaned. I hadn't slept well at all. My first thought was filled with Felix. I wondered if he was still mad about my turning him down. If he was, he'd just have to get over it. I got out of bed and threw on some clothes. Then I headed out to find him. As I walked through the paths on the forest floor, I thought of what I'd say to Felix when I saw him. He still had never told me how he got the scar running across his left cheek. Arriving at the Lost Boys' huts, I tried to find Felix's. Finding the one with Felix printed on the door, I raised my hand to knock. But before my knuckles could connect with the wood, it swung open. But it wasn't Felix who was standing in the doorway. It was Pan, his gaze burning holes in my head. He had a sorrowful look on his face which instantly sent a wave of fear over me.
"Pan, where is Felix?" I asked with worry creeping into my tone.
"I'm afraid that he is gone, dear y/n."
"How could he be gone? I though he wasn't able to leave."
Pan continued," You see, as my first mate, he has the power to leave the island because I trust him—fully. Or rather should I say, trusted. You are free to go, y/n. I was only keeping you here for him." He gave a wave of his hand and the door slammed shut.
Felix had lied to me. But I wasn't worried about that at the moment. All I could think about was Felix. Why would he leave? Had I caused it? How could he just be gone? I stormed away from the huts in the direction of the ocean. Maybe Felix was still in the process of leaving! I picked up speed until I was at a dead sprint. I could just see the tips of the crashing waves in my sight. There was Felix! He was pushing a small boat out onto the water.
"Felix!!!" I screamed with all the power my lungs could muster. Preoccupied with calling his name, I had stopped watching where I was going. A rock had found its way under my foot and sent me tumbling to the ground. My head smacked the forest floor and my vision went black. While I was out, I had a dream about Felix. He was on the ocean in his dingy. I saw a dark shape in the water's depths swimming up to his vessel. I tried to scream a warning to him, but the dark shape capsized his boat. All I could hear was muffled gurgles and I was powerless as I watched Felix drown. Then the dream became hazy. I was waking up. My eyes flickered open to see a familiar face in front of me. It was Felix!! He had come back!
"What are you doing here? I thought you were leaving," I whispered.
"Nah, I changed my mind," he said with one of his perfect smiles. " I had to rescue you from losing consciousness again." He helped me to my feet and we both walked back towards camp, hand in hand.
