The New Friend

(Hiro's POV)

I walked into school the next day my mind was supposed to be thinking about the concert that was going to happen but instead he kept popping up instead. I felt my face heat up at the thought as I got to the door. I took a deep breath before opening it. My eyes were scanning the room for him but then I spotted him sitting over at the risers. I walked over to go say hi to him but then I realized he was talking to someone and I got a little angry when I saw who it was. His name is Jiro Tanaka. Me and him don't really get along very well. The past 2 years of high school he's always tried to upstage me. He thinks he's better because he can hit different notes in different sections and learn songs faster than I can. I thought to myself I just want to talk to Tadashi i don't need to speak to Jiro. I kept walking over to them. "Hey Tadashi". I said and he turned to look at me.

"Oh hey Hiro." He said casually then turned back to keep talking with Jiro

"Oh hey Hiro why did he say like that?" I thought.

"Um how was your day yesterday?"

"It was pretty alright."

"Is that all you wanted to ask Hamada?" Jiro asked me

I was already annoyed. I really wish he would mind his own business.

"If you're done we were having an important conversation so if you could just not be here." He started shooing me away.

I looked at Tadashi but he didn't say anything. I walked away after feeling a bit hurt. Miss Akiyama walked in with a binder full of papers which only meant one thung

"Alright everyone." Miss Akiyama announced. Before we get into practice I have an announcement so every one circle up."

We all got into the circle for the announcement.

"Alright so for this concert we'll be doing songs from the hit movie... High school Musical ."

Everyone got so excited about the idea that they all started talking about it and getting ideas for what we should do.

"We should see if we can get some costumes designed." A girl in the sopranos suggested

"We have to get the dance class to help us practice some choreography." Another girl in the altos this time suggested

Miss Akiyama loved all the ideas that were being shared. she knew we wanted this to be one of our best concerts yet.

"Alright so in 2 weeks we'll have auditions to prepare for what roles everyone has and I'll have the songs ready by then for practice. So for now everyone should practice and keep those voices prepared until then that's all." Miss Akiyama finished announcing

Everyone started to gather around to practice. However Tadashi and Jiro were still talking.

"Hey Tadashi shouldn't we practice now?" He looked at me

"Yeah sure Hiro." He said and we started to look through the music

We practiced for a while with some older songs but I could see that Jiro was staring at Tadashi a lot. "Why was he looking at him like that." I thought.

After practice we wrapped up and started to pack up. I looked at Tadashi as he packed up

"Hey Tadashi." I asked him

"What's up Hiro."

"Would you mind if I walked you to class?" I asked nervously

"Sorry Hiro I'm not heading to class yet I have some stuff to take care of I'll see you around OK." He waved and I saw him walk over to Jiro and they walked into the auditorium.

I got a little discouraged. "When did they become friends?" I walked to my next class

I got a text from a familiar number and a smile landed on my face.

"Hey Hiro just letting you know I'll be back at school tomorrow I can't wait to see you 😊"

At least one person still cared about me.

After school I walked outside and saw tadashi again with Jiro. I walked over.

"Hi Tadashi."

"Oh hey Hiro."

I looked at him but I noticed Jiro was looking a little annoyed at me.

"I was wondering if you wanted to work on the songs with me." I asked a little nervous.

"Oh I'm sorry I have plans with Jiro."

"Oh okay then." I looked a little sad

"Look I'll see you tomorrow okay Hiro we can practice together then if you want." he smiled

I blushed a little. "Okay." He waved bye as he and Jiro walked away

I walked back home by myself. Sulking a bit as I looked back one more time

"Is this what jealousy feels like?"
