KIM TAEHYUNG WAS ABNORMAL. a primitive term created by the imperfect citizens of planet earth and now directed towards people of his caliber: those of perfection. it was a reach of jealousy, brewing into disgust and all sorts of dark emotions felt by the people of daegu, south korea once they realized what the boy was. and this realization hit his parents the hardest the moment taehyung was born: the medical room filled only with the pants of the labored mother, void of the familiar cries at life every newborn should make. it was then that while staring back at intense ebony orbs and an indifferent expression, the child's parents: a construction worker (not to mention full-time drinker) and night-escort (though this was kept from him as the mother kept up a façade at being the perfect stay-at-home wife) realized that taehyung wasn't like every newborn, and that fact would build upon itself in the years to come.

as a growing child, he's learned what many adults learn when they're in their 30's: how to take care of themself. his parents were both at a loss and stupefied when taehyung began taking his first steps months before the average child would—same going to his first word: it being a name he's heard his mother say occasionally (laced within heavy pants) when she'd sneak a specific someone into her room and commence her 'midnight adventures'.

"g..gikwang." a sleepy infant slurred to his drunk-father, sprawled out onto their worn couch. the name itself put the man in a stage of confusion, anxiety, and further disbelief once his own wife averted her eyes at it being mentioned in conversation. it was then that their relationship began hitting an all time low, and the blame was instead put upon taehyung who was some omen of bad luck set on tearing the two apart. the mother allowed her words to sink into the father's influenced mind, as she successfully brewed a mutual dislike for their innocent son.

poor taehyung.

carrying on with his life, the parents believed there was a growing problem in the way their child made no mistakes whatsoever. it hadn't felt like they were raising a child, when taehyung was in fact raising himself. they began fearing that something was wrong, because there's no way a child that perfect was an everyday occurrence. and so the two decided to adopt a child to fill the void: a boy a year older than taehyung, named kim jiwon. now this boy was as imperfect as they come: bearing a prickly personality, barely reaching the average-line of looks, and having a two-faced persona towards taehyung. however despite all of that, the cheating mother and alcoholic father alike began putting more time into this child, in turn further neglecting taehyung as the years went by.

it was now december 30th, 2002. holding his report card in hand, it bearing full-marks and a row of stars galore—taehyung anticipated his parents reaction at his results. he made sure (all though it'd been effortless) that his marks were perfect in hopes that his parents could for once give him the attention he's been longing for. tonight was an especially special night for the brunette, and he was hoping that maybe, just maybe his parents could actually try spending it with him: like all the bonding time they've spent with jiwon. glancing over at mentioned boy's report card: low scores and bad comments galore, he looked unbothered. it was his lack of care in situations like this had always confused taehyung.

"don't think that just because you got higher scores than me, that you're any better than me." a blow to his confidence, taehyung kept his eyes on the door to their shady apartment instead of paying too much heed to jiwon's words. the brunette had always been bullied in school for being so perfect, so insults like the ones his step-brother had spewed were of common ground to him. noticing the lack of reaction, jiwon grew infuriated at the thought of being ignored: raising a balled fist above taehyung's head. "hey stupid! i'm talking to you—"
