Chapter 1: Broken

It was the dead of night, the rain pouring outside as a thunderstorm had found its way to New Domino City.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

Jack groaned, annoyed.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

He put a pillow over his head and rolled over onto his stomach.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

The blonde groaned again, slamming his hand down on the bedside table as he grabbed the damned device. He pushed the pillow off his head and rolled back onto his back, glancing at the clock.

(Crow... At 2:41 in the morning? What does he want now...?)

Irritably, Jack closed his eyes and flipped the phone open, putting it to his ear.

"This had better he good or your ass is mine when I get my hands on you..." Jack growled.

Silence.

"Jack..." That's strange, the usually hyper and energetic red head sounded so...lifeless and depressed. "I need you now, it's an emergency..."

This wasn't setting well with Jack right about now.

"It's Yui, she's hurt..."

"I'll be there."

Without a second thought in his mind, Jack found himself hanging up the phone and getting dressed. He grabbed his helmet and put it on, going into the garage and grabbing his D-Wheel as he raced out into the pouring rain.

None of this was making any sense. First Crow calls and instead of being hyper and energetic, he was depressed and full of sorrow just from his voice, then he says that it's an emergency and Yui is hurt. It just didn't add up. What could've happened for Yui to be hurt? She was always so careful and so sure of herself. She never really got injured, this just wasn't physically correct.

Jack continued to piece together information he had, from the way Crow sounded and Yui being hurt, none of this could be correct, much less he true. What was going on? Jack needed answers as he pulled Ito a covered parking space. He put his helmet away and raced up the staircase without even breaking a sweat. He was about to knock on the door when it slowly creaked open to reveal a tired looking red head with red rimmed eyes and a broken look on his face.

"The hell happened to you?" Jack asked in a somewhat sarcastic way.

The charcoal colored eyed boy just opened the door to let Jack in, closing it back as the blonde entered.

"Sit down." He said. "You need to see something..."

"What happened to Yui? Did she crash? Did she get into a fight?" Jack blurted out.

Crow shook his head, grabbing an envelope as he sat down across from Jack, setting the envelope on the table.

"Look and those and you'll understand... Look through them slowly, but don't freak out... Yusei and I finally calmed her down about 10 or 20 minutes ago; the last thing she wants is for you to go out of control, so try to keep your cool..."

Jack would normally make a snide remark to that, but decided against it considering the situation he was about to be faced with.

Slowly, Jack opened up the envelope and looked inside to see it contained with pictures. He took them out and set the envelope aside. He could only see the backs of the pictures as he took a deep breath before letting out, flipping over the first photo as he winced.

The picture was of Yui's face. There were cuts and bruises everywhere, but what made Jack wince was the huge black eye on her right side. It was black and blue with a bit of purple; the entire eye swollen and the white in the eye red, but the color in the eye was a shade of blackish blue.
