I rushed out of the gym with him. Oh yes. Him. My handsome man. The one that was quite too tall for other girls. The one who held the universe in his eyes with so many stories hidden away beneath those polished brownies. The one that stuck out like a sore thumb for his paleness and eyes that seemed just slightly farther apart, just a bit. The one who got me into the world and kick started my life once again.
I chuckled as we jumped into his open-roof. "Where to now starman?"
"A surprise," he said calmly with a smile.
We whisked into the night, the fumes of the car leaving a subtle trail before fading away. The stars were so clear tonight. The cool wind brushed through my hair. I could feel the warmth of the night settling as we came to a slow at the base of Griffith Park.
"No," I said to him in disbelief.
He burst out laughing as he floored it up the long winding road. I screamed, the joy overwhelming me. Tonight was the night. The best night of my life in a long, long, long time. I flipped on the radio and Bennie and the jets came on.
"Woooooo!" I yelled into the night.
We pulled up at the top of the parking lot. The emptiness gave me a sense of helplessness, but at the same time all the power in the world. I threw off my clothes and put on some jeans and my favorite blue shirt. I turned to him and he just stood there, still in all black. His eyes transfixed to the sky.
For the life of me, I could never figure out why he loved the galaxy as much as I did, but that didn't mean anything now. We were alone and I still didn't know what I wanted.
