Richie came to grab me the next day. I sent him out of my room to get dressed and do my makeup, and left with him when I slipped my bag across my body.

"Hope Bev doesn't mind I grabbed you before she did." He said and I sat on the front of his bike.

"Has she talked to you? About anything?" I asked, trying to mask my nervousness.

"Nope. Haven't seen her. Why?" He asked.

"No reason." I shook my head as we met up with the others.

"B-B-Bri, you you sure you wan- wanna be that close t-to Richie?" Bill asked and I smiled.

"We all know I'm the best option out of us," Richie said.

We rode over to Bev's and she met us outside. "I need to show you something... but my dad will kill me if he found out I had boys in the house." She said.

"Okay. Ri-Richie, stay here." Bill said and dropped his bike.

"What? No, why?" He asked and I hopped off the front of the bike. He sounded hurt, so I took a peek I shouldn't have. "What do I do if her dad comes back?" He asked and I almost went with them.

"What you always do. Talk." Stan said and they went up, and I took a seat in the grass, gazing up at Richie's hurt face.

"You're not going with them?" He asked, sitting beside me.

"Figured you didn't wanna be alone," I said.

We were quiet for a moment before he spoke up. "Can I tell you a secret, Briar?" He asked.

"Sure." I hummed, looking over at him as he stared out.

"I don't think my parents even know they have a son. I don't think they know I exist or even care. I'm pretty sure that's why I talk so much. Gotta make sure people know I'm worth having around, you know?" He hummed and I took him by surprise by hugging him, putting my head on his shoulder, my arms around his torso.

"You don't have to say anything around me. I'm not going anywhere." I said and let my eyes close to enjoy this.

Richie shifted a little and put his arm around my back. "Thanks, Briar."

"Your friends aren't going anywhere, either, you know." I smiled up at him and he looked around.

"Where are they now, though?" He said and I smiled and shifted to lie down, my head on his thighs.

"It's not permanent, they'll be back soon." I smiled at him.

"You're touchy today." He said and began to trace my hair.

"I'm comfortable with you. You know, you're my first friend since moving here." I said and he looked a little surprised. "One of the first people who actually had something nice to say to me. You made me laugh."

"You're welcome. Speaking of, why move here in the first place?" He asked.

"You want the story, too?" I asked and he nodded and I sighed and stretched out a bit.

"Long story short," I groaned. "Daddy died, mom and I wanted a new life, we changed our names and moved," I said.

"Changed your names?" He asked.

"Just our last names, so instead of his name, we now have my mom's maiden name," I said and Richie nodded.

"I'm glad you're comfortable with me, Bri." He hummed after a moment. "I'm comfortable with you, too." He closed his eyes and tipped his head back, and I smiled up at him.

What seemed like forever later, everyone came out and we got to going, me on Richie's bike, gripping on for dear life as he pedaled around everyone in circles, scolding them for leaving him behind.

"Richie..." I huffed and gripped a bar as we got a little too close to a car for my liking.

"Calm down, I won't let you fall off." He said and his hand touched my back to comfort me for a moment. I let out a little shaky breath and tried to relax.

"Unless I suddenly... brake!" He yelled and we jolted forward, but he made sure I stayed on by holding my shirt in his hand.

"Richie, you asshole!" I turned to hit him and he laughed and dodged me, ending up catching my hand.

"Can you two get a room, not in the middle of the road?" Eddie sighed out as we came to a pause.

"That's Belch's car... and isn't that the homeschooled kid's bike?" Stan said.

Bev dropped her bike and stood up. "We have to help him." She said and we all took off running to go help Mike.

After Bev threw a rock at Henry, Mike came over to our side, and he and his two lackeys looked at us.

"You guys are trying too hard. All you gotta do is ask Bev, and she'll do it. That's all I had to do." He smirked and grabbed his crotch.

Ben yelled and threw a rock, which missed, and Henry was looking at me. "Oh, didn't know the little freak was a cockslut as well. You wanna come on over here and see some real dick?" He grinned, and I felt my lip curl.

"You little..." Richie started, but I put my hand on his chest to stop him.

"I got this," I said and picked up a baseball-sized rock, prepped, then threw it at him like a pitcher, and it hit him right in the forehead.

"Honey, you don't wanna fuck a Southern girl after you make her mad. We're merciless." I called. "And I don't wanna fuck you, cos, well..." I hummed. "You're gross."

Soon, we had an all-out rock war, and our side ended up winning.

"Go blow your dad you mullet-wearing asshole!" Richie yelled and gave him two middle fingers, then turned to walk away, taking me with him, his arm around my waist. "Come on, sweetie." He said in a low voice and my heart jumped inside my chest.

We all regrouped and were checking each other for injuries. Richie had a lump on his forehead from being hit in the face with a rock, but that was about it.

It was getting late, and I was back on Richie's bike, and he was driving me home.

"The festival's tomorrow. Can I pick you up for that?" He asked as we stopped outside my house, and I hopped off and smiled at him, getting an idea.

"Actually, um..." I closed my eyes and sent a quick telepathic message to my mom.

'Mom, don't hate me for this, what I'm about to do, just please let it happen and give me shit about it later, please and thank you.'

I reopened my eyes and sighed, looking at him. "Would you like to spend the night? If you want?" I bit my lip and watched as his face lit up.
